Nice to see the cream rise to the top

Apparently its now acceptable within elite Democrat politicial ranks to not only 'dis" the president, but to do it with "X-rated rant[s] full of sexual innuendoes".

The NY Post reports that a Kerry/Edwards fundraiser in NY last night, attended by both Kerry and Edwards, was the scene of a Whoopi Goldberg rant in which ...

...she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia, and boasted that she'd refused to let Team Kerry clear her material.

Well that's great. You might remember that the same sort of thing happened to Howard Dean during the primaries. Dean's reaction?

Last fall, Howard Dean ran into a similar problem when a New York fund-raiser turned into a stream of ugly racist jokes and X-rated Bush-bashing - but Dean instantly came out and said he didn't like the tone of some of the jokes.

Good for Howard Dean.

Kerry and Edwards, on the other hand:

Kerry could be seen laughing uproariously during part of Goldberg's tirade - and neither he nor Edwards voiced a single objection to its tone when they spoke to the crowd.

They hailed the fund-raiser as a great event.

Edwards said it was "a great honor" to be there and insisted, "This campaign will be a celebration of real American values."

Kerry thanked all the performers for "an extraordinary evening," hailed the "great producers" - Harvey Weinstein of Miramax and Jann Wenner - and said "every performer tonight ... conveyed to you the heart and soul of our country."

Yup, as my mom used to tell me, "class will out".

And it did last night.

Low class.

UPDATE:The Boston Herald was not amused either and had this to say about Kerry's apparent approval of what was said that night:

Instead of denouncing the repugnant comments, as Howard Dean did when racial remarks and profanity were used at one of his fundraisers, Kerry simply went on with his stump speech. He only took issue with Goldberg calling running mate John Edwards a ``kid.''

That Kerry, by his silence, tacitly endorsed the content of his supporters' remarks says something troubling about the tone of his campaign. That he allowed his military service to be used once again like some prop in a movie, says something even more troubling about his character.

Last year, I wrote that Howard Dean would inevitably suffer from his close association with the more rabid, unhinged fringe activists who had attached themselves to him.

He did. It became an unalterable part of his "image" with voters.

I wonder if the same will happen to Kerry? I don't know, and I won't speculate at this point, but continued Democratic association with Moore, et al, will push him in that direction.

Not to forget, attending this event was more important to Kerry than a national security briefing on a terror threat.

Way to show your priorities Kerry

Edwards said it was "a great honor" to be there and insisted, "This campaign will be a celebration of real American values."

Calling someone you don't like a bunch of vulgar names is a real American value only if you're in the 3rd grade.

I cringed when I heard about priviledged Hollywood jerks like Whoopi Goldberg and John Mellencamp making such unnecessarily vulgar and crass comments. I'm no prude but this reflects badly on the rest of us who want to see Bush gone but don't want to start a backlash that does damage to what we want to accomplish. As far as I'm concerned, if Al-Qaida bombed Hollywood there would be no tears from me and many others. I'd just hope that Jack Nicholson would have been out of town watching a ball game!

My wife said the same thing as your mother basically. When Kerry quipped about Bush's bike accidents and taking the training wheels off, she just said, "No class."

All that snobby up-bringing and the guy is basically a buffoon. Sheesh.

David G.,

Smart thinking. Have you thought of e-mailing that post to the Kerry campaign and tell them to not be such boobs?

Does anyone else remember the 1992 campaign? At one point, the-President Bush referred to Clinton and Gore as "those two bozos." The indignation in the press was deafening.

I've yet to hear the same indignation over this incident, which is far worse.
