Promise, promise, backtrack, smile!

Does this guy have any firm plans whatsoever?

On domestic issues, Kerry said he would not scale back his plan to expand access to healthcare even if the federal budget deficit grew. And he was less definitive about maintaining his pledge to halve the federal deficit over a first term.

"That's a goal," Kerry said. "It's a goal we are going to try to achieve. But I have to see what the numbers are on Jan. 20 [inauguration day]. I am not going to dig myself a hole based on some ideological … promise like the president did when he did his [tax cut] plan."

In other words, folks, this is all for show. Bread and circuses. Kerry reserves the right to make any promise he wishes and then to change his mind no matter what he's promised you. Cut the deficit in half? Phaaa ... depends on the numbers in January. Principles? Principles are for losers. Take a stand ... not when its easier to bend with the wind.

After all, taking a stand, having a plan, well, that's "dig[ging] a hole" in Kerry-speak.

:

Our plan will cut the deficit in half in four years by ending tax giveaways that are nothing more than corporate welfare and we will make government live by the rule that every family has to follow: pay as you go.

Not even a week later?

"That's a goal. It's a goal we are going to try to achieve. But I have to see what the numbers are on Jan. 20."

You have to admire the crabapples on this guy. Either that or you have to wonder how often he thinks he can get away with this stuff without being called on it.

I have to disagree, McQ. I think Kerry is being quite clear about where his priorities are. In this case, he's telling us quite explicitly that deficit reduction is something he'll do after expanding government programs for his constituency.

Kerry really has a lot of plans: Foreign Policy; Health Care; The Deficit; Line Item Veto; Get the Troops out of Iraq; Get Chirac to love us; Make Germany Swoon; Russia doing our bidding; Turn Iran's Mullahs into team players; Dear Leader in North Korea will be bowled over at the plans Kerry has for him; and Kofi Annan will immediately submit all the OIF scandal records for Ramsey Clark's review. He is the first candidate of either party to have such a complete portfolio of plans. And, he'll let us peek at them in three months. Whattajerk. Oh yeah, today he declared that Americans who disagrees with him are goons! I kind of like being a "Goon for Bush"

If you call Kerry on anything obviously you're just too stoopid to understand the complexities of the situation. Isn't it obvious? DYKWIA?
