Is it me, or are we — the Canadian media, that is — behaving like a bunch of trained seals, barking and clapping our hands for a morsel of fish?

Don't get me wrong. I like Barack Obama. I think he'll be way better as president than the other guy would have been. Obama is young, smart and inspiring. New generation of leaders, America's first black head of state, all that. Wonderful.

But really, the spin and fuss about the new guy's coming inauguration, particularly in Canada, is becoming more than a little nauseating. Have we no shame?

Hey, if you think it is bad there, you ought to live here.

But seriously, have you ever seen such a state within our media over an inauguration - any inauguration?

"Historical" is one thing but 'hysterical' is quite another.

Of course I understand the pressure the MSM, especially cable news with 24 hours a day to fill, is under. But the coverage now borders on obsessive. Every little detail of the man's movements and, well you name it, are reported. Speaking of movements, my guess if a reporter could manage to get in the stall before Obama flushed, we'd know whether he'd had corn the day before.

Now, honestly, I'm sort of self-insulated from this because I just don't spend that much time watching cable news and only a short time each day reading my morning newspaper (I've usually read everything reported therein the day before anyway). But just hitting the usual haunts on the net (memeorandum, Drudge, RCP, etc) finds article after article focused on this inauguration as if it was some sort of ascension or coronation.

Just like our friend the Canadian writer, you have to ask, has the MSM no shame? Don't they feel the least bit uneasy with this blatant display of a**-kissing, hero worship we see on their part?

And what does that portend in terms of their future ability to do their jobs as professional journalists?

Hey, I know the difference between a reporter and an opinion maker. I'm talking about the reporters.

Yup, it's going to be an interesting 4 years. And I'm going to be fascinated to see if the MSM can manage to remove its collective lips from Obama's posterior long enough to the job they tell us bloggers they do best.

Nothing will bolster Bush’s legacy more than the media suddenly doing 180’s on those positions of his that Obama keeps (which is looking more and more like a lot of them)

This is an interesting quote from Pravda online:

"Obama, his wife and his backers have no morals, no integrity and no respect for anything except what they want at the time. They have no more conscience than a hungry lizard in the desert coming upon a beetle in the sand."

I think the same can be said for today’s so-called mainstream journalists.

I live about an hour from the border. Trust me when I tell you that the only reason that they’re not worse up there than they are down here, is because Obama’s down here, and not up there.

To put this in some framework for you, Obama would be considered right of center, in southern Ontario politics for example.
