Hamas declares cease fire
Posted by: McQ on Sunday, January 18, 2009

Not to be out done by Israel, Hamas too has declared a "unilateral" cease-fire:
Hamas announced an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip Sunday and gave Israel, which had already declared a unilateral truce, a week to pull its troops out of the territory following a three-week war.
Had to chuckle at the demand by Hamas that Israel clear out within a week. My immediate question concerning the Hamas demand was "or what?" I guess the answer is, "or we'll bleed on you some more".

Of course, I assume Hamas believed it could pull that little bit of nonsense because Israel had already begun pulling troops out. They could be seen streaming back over the border all day Sunday.

What's interesting is - as I've mentioned previously - Hamas in exile (i.e. the group hanging out in Syria where it never faced a shot fired in anger) didn't want a cease-fire. It appears that Hamas in Gaza couldn't wait to have one. Of course, the ploy is to pretend they decided this on their own to grant Israel a break by their "unilateral" move.
Hamas's Gaza leader, Ismail Haniyeh, claimed a "popular victory" for Palestinians over Israel. "The enemy has failed to achieve its goals," he said in a speech on Hamas's Al-Aqsa TV.
Weirdly funny stuff. Typical of an entity that's all brass and no a**. Let's see how long this lasts before Iran can figure out a way to stir it up.

Oh and that broadcast by the Hamas Gaza leader? Israel had a little fun with that too:
Israel's spy services struck back, cutting into an Al-Aqsa broadcast with images of air strikes on Palestinian rocket crews and dead gunmen.

A final title card read: "Hamas was defeated!"

Israel should provide every Palestinian with a Rifle and 100 rounds, leaving the citizenry the means to get rid of Hamas but not enough Firepower to cause trouble beyond Gaza. Ammo should not be interchangeable with any of the millions of Russian weapons.

the demand by Hamas that Israel clear out within a week.
Is that like getting physically thrown out of a bar and after sliding across the sidewalk, demanding the bouncer close the door.

This just reminds me of some scrawny guy being held back by his friends at a bar, as he tries to jump the biggest, toughest guy in the place, all the while screaming "Yeah, you’re LUCKY they’re holding me back!!!"

And this just in...we have a statement from Robert E. Lee, datelined Appomattox Court House, April 1865: "We have Grant and the Union Army on the run. Any day now we intend to win this thing, so we can get our slaves back."

We now return you to your regularly scheduled bullcrap from the Islamic maggots known as Hamas.
