Why would this be any different than Blago’s intent?
Posted by: McQ on Monday, January 19, 2009

So tell me the difference between Blago's "pay-to-play" which involves cash, and this form of pay-to-play, if it is true?
A third potential candidate claimed that Paterson's repeated contention - told to the media in private - that there is no front-runner is "baloney."

"It's been a done deal from the start," said the would-be candidate.

"David goes with Caroline with the understanding that Caroline, and her family and its resources, go with David next year. This stuff with Paterson saying he's looking at other people is a crock," the source continued.
Why would this be any less corrupting than a wad of cash?

I pose this as a question to our loyal commentariat.

Cool, I’ll be the vanguard of the commentariat.

Quid pro Quo can’t be money, pretty much that simple.
Too blatant, too ’dirty’, too hard to explain away.

Now, campaign contributions, appearances, support, etc, well, that was just a matter of making the best choice for a political position, you see?

No one will ever show up with a warrant and look in your freezer for campaign support.

As Denzel said in Training Day: There’s what you know......and what you can prove.

If we had Blindy McGee on tape like we do Blago, it would be a slam dunk.

Though I agree with the premise.

ehh... I’m with Bruce’s apparent point here... is IS equally corrupting, since promised power usually involves the perks taht go with the job; Clearly a motivation.

Oh agreed, I understand his point.

But a majority of people believe one form of payola is okay simply because it doesn’t come directly as cash and gets dressed up with high flown terms like ’quid pro quo’ when it amounts to ’buy you, buy me’.

And the legal system aids and abets by punishing people who are so crass as to take cash for services rendered, instead of taking goods and services in lieu of the cash.

I’m not so much shocked that it occurs, it’s obvious that it would, but we allow it to flourish by punishing clowns like William Jefferson, and rewarding clowns like Caroline Kennedy with powerful political office. Can’t deny it’s going to happen, to do so would be to pull up a chair in Erb’s world of the Unreal.

Blag did no more than what many power players do, he was just too direct in doing so.
