Truce? What Truce?
Posted by: McQ on Tuesday, January 20, 2009

As if this will come as a surprise to anyone:
A day after Hamas announced a truce with Israel, a spokesman for Izzadin Kassam, the group's military wing, stressed that Hamas would rearm, despite efforts to stop weapons smuggling into the Gaza Strip.

"Do what you like, but manufacturing holy weapons is our goal," masked spokesman Abu Obaida said at a Gaza press conference on Monday.

"Bringing arms into Gaza is not smuggling. The natural situation would be for all Arab and Muslim countries, along with the rest of the free world, to officially allow weapons into the Strip... Meanwhile, we believe it is our right to bring arms in any way we see fit," the Hamas spokesman told reporters.
And, of course, fire them into Israel and then again squeal like a stuck hog when Israel hits the source of the attacks.

Negotiate with that.

Oh, and you'll love this one:
Abu Obaida went on to claim that only 48 of the group's gunmen were killed during Israel's three-week military operation in the Gaza Strip.
Reminds me of Baghdad Bob assuring us there weren't any American troops in Baghdad as a couple of US tanks parked behind him during his broadcast.

Israel is manufacturing holy weapons, too, you know. Hamas members will say, "Good Allah, I’ve been shot!"

Too bad Allahpundit toned down his fiery satire for HotAir. This one is just begging to be fark-ed. "Holy weapons" conjures up images of a certain baseball pitcher’s "glorious fastball" avenging his being "shamed and humiliated" by a prior batter’s home run.

So Hamas is rearming and cracking down on their only rival, Fatah. I guess those must have been Israel’s goals for this exercise, because Olmert just told us his objectvies had been reached.

Those wouldn’t have been my objectives, but who can fathom the wily minds of the Israelis?

The more they shoot at each other, Retief, the less they’ll shoot at Israel. It might not have been their intended objective, but as results go, it’s not that bad.

I kind of liked the "along with the rest of the free world" line as they round up their political rivals and shoot them.

Which part of cease fire is hard for you to grasp Retief?
Which part of destroyed tunnels?
Which part of destroyed munitions?
Which part of dead Hamas ’soldiers’?
Which part of stopping the daily rain of Hamas rockets?
Which part of weakening Hamas even temporarily?

You’re like Erb, a self proclaimed expert into the minds of the Israeli command structure and what is right for them and what is not right for them.

What would YOUR objectives have been anyway?
Make sure you cover peace and happiness, which we’re all sure aren’t objectives for those wiley Israelis. We’ll let our hair down and admit they love war, war and more war with their oft professed goal of complete and utter destruction of any Palestinian state.

Perhaps this time they’ll rearm, but not fire into Israel.

Is Hezbollah stronger or weaker because of Israels invasions of Lebenon? They were just one party in a country that was getting richer. Now they are the most powerful party in a country thats getting poorer. The poorer the country gets the more recruits they get.

Likewise the action in Gaza is unlikely to make Israel any friends there. In two years is Hamas going to be stronger than the day Israel sent their tanks in.

The status quo is so bad for the Palistinians that they have very little to lose. The war will continue until either there is the creation of a Palistinan middle class or there is genocide.

What is this nonsense about making friends? They’re supposed to endure terrorist attacks in order to make friends? What kind of friends will those be?

looker, what part of a ceasfire prohibits rearming?

I wouldn’t have launched this killing spree. I would have made the same deal that is on offer now, and was on offer beforehand, then. Or I would have kept the terms of the previous ceasefire and opened the border crossings. I wouldn’t have insisted on an election and then kept in prison anybody with a chance of beating Hamas, thus ensuring their victory. But then, my goal would be a resolution to the conflict, not continuing the staus quo while positioning myself for the upcoming Israeli election.

Israel has had forty years to figure out what to do with all those arabs. So far wishing they’d just go away hasn’t worked. Far be it from me to suggest I know what’s right for them, but maybe it’s time to try something else.

When you say you wouldn’t launch a killing spree, is that the kind, gentle Hamas you, or the evil attacking without provocation, and refusing to renew the standing cease-fire in December Israel you?

I can see by the way you’re stacking the blame blocks that it’s once again the fault of the joooooooooooooooos that they came under rocket attack in December, and their fault that they had the temerity to defend themselves.
Let no blame fall upon people who had 98% of what they wanted offered to them and then proceeded to kick out a group of worn down terrorists as their government to replace them with a fresh batch of new feisty terrorists for their government.
Let us pretend the Palestinians are without blame for anything that has happened, certainly since they moved into Gaza, shall we?
Let us pretend that Jordan is not heavily Palestinian, and not attacking Israel.
Let us pretend that the West Bank got just as mangled in the 3 week assault as Gaza did.
Let us pretend that the joooooos attacked Palestinians wherever they were found in all nearby countries.

Yes indeed, Israel has had 40 years to figure out ’what to do’ with those ’Arabs’. Genocide them, or genocide themselves, or perhaps they could ask for space on the Navaho reservations here in the American Southwest. They’ve had 40 years to figure out that the leaders of the people they just finished attacking want them dead and/or gone and why are they soooooo stubborn?
Why don’t they just give up and, I don’t know, die off or something? They’re such a bother aren’t they? B@stards! Imagine wanting a country of their own, and security, like the um, reasonable, peace loving, rocket firing, suicide bombing, people in Hamas do.

Where’s John Lennon when I need him?

For a ’stronger’ party that’s ostensibly now ’the most powerful’ Hezbollah’s sure been keeping its head down when it comes to ticking off the Israelis since 2006.

Oh, and it’s spelled ’Lebanon.’

If genocide them or genocide themselves are the only choices, then perhaps Israel would have been better advised not to take over the territories on which those arabs were living.

It’s not the Isreali’s fault they are bombarded by rockets, but they do lose the right to whine about that when they fail to keep the terms of the ceasefire themselves.

yeah, a whole lot of detail in that article Retief...since we have Mr. Pebody’s Wayback machine at our disposal, let’s look at what happened afterwards....

Okay twit....

Of special note - Israeli authorities closed Sufa and other crossings on Wednesday, a day after Islamic Jihad militants in Gaza fired several rockets at Israel.

AFTER THE TRUCE WAS DECLARED AND HAD BEEN IN OPERATION...oh, right, it wasn’t Hamas that day (heh heh heh heh, sure....)

No problem with Egypt closing THEIR crossing into Gaza though... they reopened it a bit during Ramadan, so all’s okay....any rockets fly into Egypt in December to protest the closed crossings? Nah....

snip
Rafah was sealed after the militant Muslim Hamas group seized power in Gaza in June 2007, confining 1.5 million Gaza residents to the tiny coastal territory. Egyptian officials have infrequently opened the crossing since, though in January, Hamas gunmen breached the border, allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Egyptians to cross back and forth before Egypt clamped it shut again.
snip

Those wiley Jews must be controlling Egypt too!

Retief = Hamas Troll.

What is that suposed to mean? Can you really not tell the difference between Hamas, Al Aksa, and Islamic Jihad? If you can’t even get that right, why are you bothering to write about Israel and the Territories?

A rocket flies out of Gaza controlled by Hamas, you know, but (today! for you today only, special deal!) not fired by Hamas. (Sounds like a truce violation to me....)

The evil Jews respond by....closing some of the border crossings rather than carpet bombing Gaza in retaliation.

The ’truce’ continues despite a rocket attack originating in territory Hamas controls. Evil Evil Israel. In fact the truce holds until December of 2008 when a certain side decides it’s ’ready to take on the IDF!’.

What’s my comment supposed to mean? Hamas can’t control their own territory.

(or...heh heh heh...maybe they do, Get it?....I’m just sayin, ya know?).

All very convenient these little groups.

They must color code the smoke on their rockets so Israel can tell who’s doing the deed that day and doesn’t just blow them all to hell in response.

The only resolution to the conflict is genocide.

Israel isn’t savage, and won’t engage in genocide. The Arabs lack the ability to carry out genocide (so far).

So the status quo will remain.

Retief - where is your complaint about Hamas rounding up Fatah members and torturing and or killing them since the withdrawal occurred?

I mean, you wuz concerned about the plight of the Arabs in Gaza, remember?
Ain’t you concerned about Fatah, are they ’wrong’ Arabs or is it that there aren’t any Israelis involved to complain about and so you aren’t going to complain at all?

The left is all about feeling sorry for the little guy, loosers, and the like. They live in a world where success and power are the only real evils. Only "The Man" is culpible; Hamas is innocent or a tool of "The Man".

He’s also not real worried about the plight of the Jordanian Palistinians, or the West Bank Palistinians.

Strikes me as kinda odd.
And what’s really odd - Gaza, taken from Egypt in 1967, given to the Palistinians in, what, 79?

I suppose the Gaza Egyptians are going to fire rockets into Gaza until the Palistinains there leave?

"Didn’t Jordan kick out the Palistinians that were causing them trouble in the 70’s?"

Yep. It was called ’Black September’, after which the terrorist group was named. The Palestinians tried to take over Jordan, and when Hussein kicked them out, they went to Lebanon, where they did the same. The Palestinians don’t seem to play well with other Arabs, either.
