Kurtz: Sins of Omission and Commission...
Posted by: Jon Henke on Tuesday, February 08, 2005

While what seems like the entire right side of the blogosphere is jumping on Howard Kurtz for the Eason Jordan issue, and for not answering questions about it in his web-chat yesterday, there has been a complete silence from Kurtz on the matter of Kurtz' recent demonstrably false assertion that "[the] number of adults in Iraq is probably closer to 18 million".

I pointed out that his "18 million adults" number was utterly implausible here, and criticized his subsequent attempts to excuse his error -- essentially: "somebody told me something, but I can't remember exactly who or what, and anyway I was just trying to point out how confusing this is by confusing you with fake numbers" -- here.

Following that, I sent a correction request to the Washington Post, and submitted a question to Kurtz' web chat. There was no response to either. Kurtz has neither clarified nor corrected his misleading column.

While, bloggers seem very interested in why Howard Kurtz didn't go far enough in the Eason Jordan case, I'm more concerned with the instance in which Kurtz went too far by inventing ~4 million additional Iraqi voters, was confronted with that fact, and still refuses to make that correction.
