Thanks for the ride Cindy, let’s do lunch sometime
Posted by: McQ on Thursday, September 01, 2005

Heh ... predictable? Yeah, I think so. I just didn't expect it to happen this quickly:
Powerful liberal advocacy groups such as MoveOn.org are taking a less active role in Cindy Sheehan's anti-war activities in the wake of criticism that they may have muddied her message.

The groups, which played a major role in Mrs. Sheehan's monthlong vigil outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, are scaling back their involvement as Mrs. Sheehan prepares to leave Texas today on a bus tour to Washington.

Critics had said it appeared that Mrs. Sheehan had morphed from a mother grieving the loss of her son in Iraq into a pawn of liberal advocacy groups.

"The vigil started as a very grass-roots thing and then grew because groups like MoveOn were drawn to what Cindy was doing and wanted to offer their support," said Wade Fletcher of Mintwood Media Collective, a Washington-based public-relations group advising the Sheehan demonstrators.

"Now we're kind of bringing it back to the original grass roots," he added.

For example, the protesters will no longer receive strategic and political advice from Fenton Communications, a large, left-wing public-relations firm. That role reverts to Mintwood, a small operation that helped Mrs. Sheehan early on.
Translation: "Cindy's been "Katrina'd" and pushed off the front page, Bush is no longer in Crawford and the without the media spotlight, we're no longer interested. Enjoy the grass roots, Cindy".

Gotta love 'em. Loyal to the end. As Matt Taibbi said of those who are allowing Sheehan to return to her "grass roots":
...a bunch of people who called themselves her friends but were really just humping the latest cause.
Indeed.

Humping done.

See ya!

...and the damn fools said; "Move On!"

"It isn’t that they muddied her message, it’s that they took it over; it’s that they made her grief into an unsustainable public spectacle; it’s about the too public effects of the agitprop they fed her; it’s about the fact they were caught changing a mother’s grief into their own brand of Bush hatred and, mostly, it is because it isn’t working.

The party in Texas may be over but it’s just moving to Washington. Along the way they will pick up support like a snowball rolling downhill. By the time it rolls into the White House on 9/24 there’s no telling the size of the growd they will attract. I guess we’ll have a great debate this 9/11 about our reasons for attacking Iraq, but that how its supposed to work. We will certainly see what happens to Cindy but something tells me she’ll still be there after Katrina moves off the front page. Just a hunch!

I’m sorry; I forgot the quotes around "growd". Haven’t you heard? It’s the newest coined word meaning ’growing crowd’. Get it? GROWING CROWD! How cleaver the kids are these days. An example would be: ’Did you see the "growd" that gathered with Cindy Sheenan down there in Crawford, Texas? Or you could say: ’Look at that "growd" of patriotic Americans lining up at the gas station to pay $6.00 a gallon. OR, I guess another would be ’How big can that "GROWD" of New Orleans residents get without the basic necessities that sustain life. The list of uses for this versatile new word goes on and on and on. I love America!

"Humping done. See ya!"

Or, in the words of poet, philosopher and diamond dog David Bowie, "Wham, bam, thank ya, ma’am!"

I forgot to note her "start time."
How long did her fifteen minutes of fame actually last?
And how often do we really expect to see her on television in 2008?
