Ohio Republicans thank The Guardian
Posted by: McQ on Friday, October 22, 2004

As you recall I mentioned that the Guardian, a UK left-wing newspaper, had begun a project where it's readers could get the name of a Clark County Ohio voter and write to them explaining why George Bush shouldn't be president anymore.

Well, the law of unintended consequences has scuttled that endeavor:
The Guardian yesterday ran up the white flag and called a halt to "Operation Clark County", the newspaper's ambitious scheme to recruit thousands of readers to persuade American voters in a swing state to kick out President George W Bush in next month's election.

The cancellation of the project came 24 hours after the first of some 14,000 letters from Guardian readers began arriving in Clark County. The missives led to widespread complaints about foreign interference in a US election.

It also prompted a surge of indignant local voters calling the county's Republican party offering to volunteer for Mr Bush.
Oops. Not exacly the result for which they hoped, I'm sure ... but the Ohio Republican party says "thanks" anyway.

Great blog, guys. One of my favorites. This is off topic, but...

I can't figure out how your search engine works.

I've tried to search for stuff I've read at your site before, but nothing happens when I click "search".

What am I doing wrong?

The Guardian's rather feeble attempts to justify this fiasco can be found here:

Canadian Guy: When you click on the "Search Page" link, it should open up a new window, and from that window you can define the terms and/or the dates you want to find.

That doesn't help you search the old blog, though. To do that, you'll have to either:
a) go to QandO.net/blog and click "Stop" on your browser before it takes you to the new blog, or...
b) Do a Google site-search. (by starting the google search with: site:www.qando.net)

Does that help?
