Ah..... The smile I got from this was worth the stop here, all by itself.
When I started DJ’ing weddings back in the middle seventies, one of the biggest thrills I got was public recognizing in the crowd, a recent anniversary of 25,30,40,50 years and more, at the wedding reception. For reasons I don’t think I can fully explain, it always seemed to me to give added weight to the occasion of the wedding, to have people there and celebrating that were so successful at the very concept of the union. An example, if you will.
Sadly, I look around me and see marriages that aren’t lasting 30 minutes, much less 30 years.... a real accomplishment, and yet I’ll bet it doesn’t seem so to you. I notice, for example, that when you speak of her use of like a newlywed yet. I know the feeling, now, thought 20 years ago, I hadn’t a clue about it beyond what my own parents 65 years together showed me, not having experienced it personally.
In any event, the way you describe it.... That’s how it’s supposed to work.
Our culture, our society, survives and thrives because such marriages survive... And, at the risk of getting sidetracked, I think it’s the reason that our society is struggling to maintain marriage in its long held definitions. Marriage, of course, and the resulting family structures, being society’s very foundation.
It’s my opinion that it is right and proper that we as a society and culture celebrate when such milestones come along, thus encouraging others to strive for the same milestones.
Please accept warm wishes and congratulations from both Donna, and myself... And, thanks for sharing. |

Yup ... believe it or not that’s sort of a defacto requirement for a 30th wedding anniversary. ;)
