1. One of your links ("Below the Beltway") is wrong. 2. How come you guys aren’t on the RLC’s reading list? |

I have tried to sign on, even though I have been inexplicably blacklisted from the Ecosystem and have a bone to pick with the Bear. This is more important than my petty complaints. |

The pro-life folk in the Reps will continue to be very strong, if not dominant. They represent the actual voters who give victories.
Look at 3 election issues: Iraq War; Tax Cuts/ economy; Moral Values, based on Pew surveys of what is most important.
21 mil for Bush; 21 mil for Kerry on Iraq/ Terrorism. 8 mil for Bush; 30 mil for Kerry on Tax Cuts. 27 mil for Bush; 4 mil for Kerry on Moral Values.
Libertarian type tax-cutting Reps with 8 mil voters ain’t gonna run the Rep party from an honest strength.
I wish big gov’t spending wasn’t as important to Dems; but it is. However, more Libs, with more Liberatarian kinda thinking, is most likely to be better.
I’m now a pro-life Libertarian Paternalist; registered Rep.

1. One of your links ("Below the Beltway") is wrong. 2. How come you guys aren’t on the RLC’s reading list? 1) Thanks, fixed it. 2) Reading list? The pro-life folk in the Reps will continue to be very strong, if not dominant. They represent the actual voters who give victories. The problem, as I see it, is that libertarians have never formed a political coalition. Really, they’ve never done anything but proselytize and balkinize; they beg people to be libertarian, following which they excommunicate them for being insufficiently libertarian.
The movement needs organization. An actual, elected caucus of influential members sharing our goals of limited government would be a remarkable first step. |

Hey, Jon!
A little premature navel-gazing on my part: First, EU rumblings about bringing Iran before the UNSC, and now a "liberty" candidate for the GOP House leadership - are my ’06 predictions coming true? Could a Lib-caucus be rearing its "insurgent" head - finally?
If the GOP votes for this Liberty candidate, rather than fuel the creation of a separate Lib-faction, the party could effectively co-opt the "Libertarian" platform and market it under the GOP party label.
Either outcome - an organized "Lib-caucus", or a reformed, Libertarian GOP - will contest the veracity of the Democrats’ tactical civil-libertarianism. -Steve

Book, I think you have to be a GOP house member to pick a horse in this race.
Birthing a cohesive Libertarian movement will take "organization." "Limited Government" is a catch-phase for the Libertarian ideal of low-taxes, limited governmental intervention in the free economy, and the assertion of all private individuals’ responsibility for their own lot in life.
I don’t always agree with Jon, but I’m wondering exactly what it is that you find "pithy" about his comment.
Or were you being sarcastic? -Steve |

While I have signed my blog on to this document, it’s neither a full support nor a blind one. My concern is the last time we had a "reformer" within the the GOP, it ended up being John McCain. that some experience in pain I’d just as soon not repeat. I see indications in John Shadegg’s past that suggest another McCain in the offing. (Shudder) |
