Why is it that Ayman al-Zawahiri can produce videotapes, but Osama, The Big Guy, only does radio now? I’m just asking As a guess, I’d say it has as much to do with BinLaden’s health issues as anything. Hard to be impressive when you look to be at death’s door... from Kidney failure, is it? I forget... |

The Osama Bin Laden/kidney thing appears to be a myth.
WaTimes:Indian Muslims, Internet gurus, television anchors, and at least one prime minister have said that [Osama] bin Laden has kidney trouble.
So where is the evidence? In short, there is no evidence, just a lot of chatter.
There is only one presumably well-informed source who has gone on the record to say that bin Laden was on dialysis: Pakistani Prime Minister Pervez Musharraf. And he later changed his mind. [...]In fact, there is a mountain of evidence that bin Laden is not on dialysis.
No medical report has been produced that shows bin Laden is on dialysis. No reporter who has actually met bin Laden has seen the archterrorist hooked up to a dialysis machine or heard him talk about it. Robert Fisk, the only Western journalist to interview bin Laden three times, makes no mention of dialysis. NRO:I tracked down nearly everyone who met bin Laden in the past 20 years. Every one that I was able to speak to said that bin Laden has no kidney troubles. My investigation took me to Egypt, Sudan, and put me in touch with leading journalists and officials in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
In Khartoum, I interviewed a man who lived with bin Laden for six years in both Sudan and Afghanistan. He emphatically said bin Laden had no health problems of any kind. He thought the dialysis story was propaganda put out by the CIA to depress the spirits of Muslims. |

Hmmm. What then?
He certainly didn’t sound to me overly healthy in the last tape. Weak, and tired, he sounded to me. And given what this guy does I dunno as I’d NOT expect a lack of recorded information, hmmm?
A few points, and possibly the original report on all of this.
Of greater interest to me is this Mark Francis Cohen report in Salon, naming not Kidney probelms per se’, but Marfan syndrome. And given the symptoms we could see (And now, only hear) this perhaps is more accurate.
In any event, and whatever it is, it strikes me that he’s got something he’s not interested in us... and perhaps his followers... seeing.

But when Chris Mathews points that out, he gets a lefty linch mob. Nevermind the fact that Michael Moore noticed the same thing when the tape came out before the presidential election, and Moore even seemed kind of happy that OBL had seen his movie. |

We should also consider the possibility that bin Laden is no more. It’s not so hard to mimic a voice on tape. How much trust do we have in the CIA’s voice analysis? I can imagine after an initial fraudulent audio tape was "verified," all subsequent tapes were guaranteed.
Anyway, it goes without saying that it is much much harder to mimic voice AND appearance on video.
Not sure if I need a tin foil hat. I’m not saying I believe this to be true, but I think it is certainly plausible. And it does explain why we don’t have video. |

But in any case, (And this is why I posted some BinLaden info as well) how is it that the leadership of al Quieda seem to have really weird health problems, or rumors of them? Is it the environment they live in, I wonder? Or, is it that they’re such bastards because they’re always ill?
