The Arrogance of Power
Posted by: Dale Franks on Wednesday, February 01, 2006

An emailer from inside the House of Representatives sends this quote along:
"This is a secret ballot. Things happen. . .If it turns out I am not the majority leader, I will still be the whip."— Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO), quoted by CQ's Alan K. Ota ("Signs of Unrest Grow on Eve of Leadership Vote," Congressional Quarterly, February 1, 2006)
Yeah. We know. We recognize that it's a problem, too. Still, we'll be happy enough if the Whip is all you are.

Heh ... doesn’t sound as arrogant as he did, though, does he?

I’m somewhat off topic, but speaking of arrogance and power and spending... I wondered if anyone picked up on the spending reduction bill that passed today. The house had to revote because of changes from Senate Democrats. Now buried in the Spending ’reduction’ bill are new spending increases... See Sec 3007-3009 which provide subsidies to analog TV broadcasts. Here are the Senate changes to the bill: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c109:1:./temp/~c109EPG2Eb:e574:

my apologies on the link... From the Senate bills page I now get this one:

It’s Senate Bill 1932 to provide contextual information instead of a link which may be bad again...

"This is a secret ballot. Things happen."

Do you mean that if it was a public ballot, people wouldn’t have dared vote against you. Nice that he’s a self admitted *insert alternate name for Richard here*.
