Rove: Indictment Imminent?
Posted by: McQ on Saturday, May 13, 2006

That's what "Truthout" is reporting (via Joe Gandelman at "The Moderate Voice")
Within the last week, Karl Rove told President Bush and Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten, as well as a few other high level administration officials, that he will be indicted in the CIA leak case and will immediately resign his White House job when the special counsel publicly announces the charges against him, according to sources.

Details of Rove's discussions with the president and Bolten have spread through the corridors of the White House where low-level staffers and senior officials were trying to determine how the indictment would impact an administration that has been mired in a number of high-profile political scandals for nearly a year, said a half-dozen White House aides and two senior officials who work at the Republican National Committee.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, sources confirmed Rove's indictment is imminent. These individuals requested anonymity saying they were not authorized to speak publicly about Rove's situation. A spokesman in the White House press office said they would not comment on "wildly speculative rumors."
I'm with Gandleman: "Truthout.org goes out-on-a-limb on this one". True or well-crafted rumor? We should know more this week.

UPDATE: Truthout.org is now reporting that Rove has been indicted.
Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald spent more than half a day Friday at the offices of Patton Boggs, the law firm representing Karl Rove.

During the course of that meeting, Fitzgerald served attorneys for former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove with an indictment charging the embattled White House official with perjury and lying to investigators related to his role in the CIA leak case, and instructed one of the attorneys to tell Rove that he has 24 hours to get his affairs in order, high level sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said Saturday morning.

Robert Luskin, Rove's attorney, did not return a call for comment. Sources said Fitzgerald was in Washington, DC, Friday and met with Luskin for about 15 hours to go over the charges against Rove, which include perjury and lying to investigators about how and when Rove discovered that Valerie Plame Wilson was a covert CIA operative and whether he shared that information with reporters, sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said.

It was still unknown Saturday whether Fitzgerald charged Rove with a more serious obstruction of justice charge. Sources close to the case said Friday that it appeared very likely that an obstruction charge against Rove would be included with charges of perjury and lying to investigators.

I understand a local DC deli will be naming it’s ham sandwich after Rove.

Jason Leopold appears to be the ONLY person reporting this anywhere. I want it to be true, but this makes me a bit nervous.

He sure is reporting like it is a done deal, isn’t he?

While crimes like "obstruction," "perjury" and "lying to investigators" are serious, the first and last question is .. about what original crime ?

This reenforces the the notion that you should never say anything to investigators, grand juries, or prosecutors .. period. Take the 5th all the way. Most especially if you did nothing.

I guess the "original crime" does not matter, does it? Just ask Bill Clinton - he was not even being investigated for a crime when the Monica matter came up. It was a civil lawsuit. Not that it matters to the hypocrites, i.e., Ruthuglicans.

Have you noticed that no one - and I mean no one - is denying Rove has been indicted? Where is Luskin? Look, if you had been publicly suspected of a crime, and you had Rove’s notiriety and stature, and there were rumors out there that you were indcited on Friday, wouldn’t you want your lawyer out there denying those rumors? After all, what are you paying him for?

Rove is evil. He trades on rumor and inneundo. He smears. He plays on fear and hatred. He is the main force in the WhiteHouse that says it is morally acceptable to portray anyone - anyone - who opposes George Bush on any - any - policy decision as a traitor.

And then Karl ran into a criminal investiagation. He was completely out of his league. And he was revealed for the ridiculous coward that he really is.

Welcome to the machine, Karl.

Now that Bush has lost his brain, is that a good or bad thing?

Exatly. Even the most hard core junkie types understand this. But the chief policy adviser to the president apparently didn’t.

Does that make you fear for the future of the USA? If it doesn’t, you aren’t awake.

Well, no, not particularly. After all, if he gets indicted, then it means he didn’t get away with it, and he’s going to trial.

Seems to me like that would show the system was working properly.

Just like it was when Clinton was disbarred.

If you’re going to gamble, you might as well gamble big. If this pans out and Leopold is right, he’ll be the toast of political chatterers everywhere.

And he was correct on the Scooter Libby indictment ...
