From the ones I’ve met, ’campaign volunteers’ seem to attract an extremely high percentage of partisan nutjobs. Not just loyal party members, but the nutballs. I’m not sure how much we should treat that tp reflect on the party and candidates, or just that campaigns are often pretty desperate for volunteers.
Most normal people have no desire to volunteer to sit around stuffing envelopes, making cold calls, and putting signs in the ground. That leaves the nutballs. |

The whole point of concentrating on the "nutjob" without bringing the other candidate into this was the desire not to widen my contempt and condemnation beyond the perpetrator. That’s also why my last line addresses only her.
But still, this sort of thing is just absurd on it’s face (or feces, if you prefer). |

The only suprise here is that it was "only" feces and didn’t degenerate into something more destructive like we saw happen to BC04 offices during the campaign. You tell this defective to "grow up" but that’s wasted words. |

So referring to conservatives daily as "evil murderers" and "nazis" wasn’t the lowest moment for the dems, it’s this dog crap in a letter. |

Michelle Malkin reports that the nutjob is a professor emeritus at the University of Northern Colorado (Subject: French, of course) and that she holds an official Dem Party position as Colorado Senate District 13 Democratic Central Committee vice chair.
I am particularly intrigued by the sentence in the report that says "most of the preprinted return address was blacked out, but staffers used the nine-digit ZIP code to trace it to Kathleen Ensz, a Weld County Democratic volunteer."
The emotional immaturity and mentality of Ensz is evident and has been widely commented on. I haven’t yet heard anyone question her intelligence: Would a smart person use an envelope preprinted with her own address for a "prank" like this? Ensz couldn’t even manage to blacken out the entire address, which is why she was so quickly identified. Now really, couldn’t she afford to buy a plain envelope that carried no identifying information? Setting aside her purpose here, do you really want someone who is such a dope to be teaching at the university level (or any level)? Or holding a responsible position in local party politics? If Ensz’s intelligence is representative of the Democrats, do you really want them in charge of outsmarting the bad guys (you know, that little war-thingy that exercises their conscience so much)? I don’t think they have the mental ability to carry out the mission. |

You guys have taken this entirely out of context. She was only trying to help Marilyn Musgrave and her campaign chill out a bit. They were supposed to smoke the contents of the bag.

From the ones I’ve met, ’campaign volunteers’ seem to attract an extremely high percentage of partisan nutjobs. No argument. But let’s not fall into the fallacy of the mean here. Reading over this article can give one a sense of proportion, especially if you read the incidents listed in detail at the bottom, and discount the thefts, which police usually believe are not politically motivated. (Since this is from ABC, I hope we can agree that they’re not trying to slant things against the Democrats here.)
And this was written before the election day incidents in Wisconsin, for which several Democratic operatives got caught and eventually plea-bargained an admission of guilt. |

They were supposed to smoke the contents of the bag. So what are you saying, Cindy? It was mostly "Labrador" in the envelope ;) |

The real question is "Has It Not Always Been Thus?" And note that at least she didn’t put it on the porch and light in on fire. |

"Most normal people have no desire to volunteer to sit around stuffing envelopes, making cold calls, and putting signs in the ground. That leaves the nutballs"
I am assuming you have little, if any, experience working with political volunteers. The vast majority of the ones I have met are quite normal, even boring. Most of them realize that it takes work to elect candidates, and that somebody has to do it, or pay for it to be done. A few are indeed nutjobs, though perhaps a smaller percentage than the percentage of those who comment here. There is probably a higher percentage of nutjobs among voters at large than among volunteers. Of course my experience is exclusively with Rep. volunteers, so I am assuming the same is true for the other party. Most people have no desire to volunteer to change diapers, but somehow a large number of people do it. |
