I’m a Meanie
Posted by: Dale Franks on Saturday, June 17, 2006

Sometimes, there are people who rub you the wrong way. There's no explanation for it. Sometimes, a brief interaction with someone leaves you with a visceral dislike that goes beyond any reason.

A good case in point was "Bithead" from Bit's Blog. I could take him or leave him, but Jon just couldn't stand the guy. It happens.

Well, that's the case between me and the commenter "Mona". For whatever reason, she just rubs me the wrong way. But, McQ emailed me, and told me that I should back off on "Mona".

He's probably right. I do have a temper, undoubtedly the shortest temper of the three of us.

So, "Mona", I apologize. I'll really try to stop being a meanie to you.

Knowing (and liking) Mona as I do — Warning: Insider Joke Ahead! — she’s probably already cancelled her subscription to you.

Ah, Mr. Ridgely, I only recently learned just how far that joke has spread. In a thread at ObWi (a long one about my Schiavo post here and the nature of libertarians) one "Phil" made a comment about "Mona canceling her subscription" supposedly all the time. To which I objected.

Poor Phil averred he meant his toss-off line in the friendliest manner, and linked me to Google results which show that, indeed, the cancellation trope/joke has spread well beyond mere moi, and taken on an amusing life of its own. My small contribution to the insider language of the blogosphere, it seems. );
