OK, I’ve never been called a "mistress" before
Posted by: McQ on Saturday, July 22, 2006

But in reality I really am flattered by the post from Jaded JD on his blog. In a post entitled "I'm in Love" he says:
I have two mistresses. The first is QandO.net, whose virtues I extolled here, and it seems not a day goes by when I am not more impressed with and enamored of Messrs. Franks, Henke, and McQuain.

QandO manages to do well everything I think a "political blog" should do, and one of the reasons I've posted less since I've returned to blogging is that between its three contributors, QandO quite often says what I would have said had I gotten around to saying anything on a subject—and says it better.

I did not know it existed, either, until Mr. Jaquith's aggregator brought it to my attention and now I'm ashamed I haven't been reading it for years.

Mr. Franks's post this evening about blogwars only adds new flame to my long-simmering adoration.
Before Joe jumps on this with some sort of "that's really gay" nonsense, I want to say I totally and without malice aforethought agree completely with Jaded JD. And don't forget, he's jaded, which makes this an even bigger compliment. He's not enamored with us (you saw Dale's picture last week, I mean, come on!), but our content and character and, hopefully our writing. And JD, I'm most appreciative of the line which says we manage "to do well everything I think a "political blog" should do." High praise.

Look, if we're not going to toot our own horn, why shouldn't we feature someone who does? Lord knows they're few and far between.

Now I'm sure I've embarrassed him (and that's not my intent), but hey, he willingly put that up on his blog and I assume he meant for it to be read, so I don't see why we can't put it on ours. Especially considering we normally don't get fan mail and are usually on the opposite end of comments which question our sanity, our reading ability and our very right to existence and the air we breath.

It's Saturday night, I've had a beer or two, Jaded JD was kind enough to compliment the blog and I enjoyed and appreciated the complement and I wanted to share it. So live with it.

Oh, and his second love? Some other blog which will remain nameless. We are nothing if not jealous.

I do like a peppermint tea infusion.

And this site is quite nice too.

This has been my favorite blog since before the 2004 election. I know it’s been a while since I last told you how much I cared, and I’m sorry I never bring you flowers anymore; I guess I’ve started taking you all for granted.

P.S. All the posts involving Greenwald are starting to creep me out.

Me too. I’m done with it. I’ve had my say.

Oh, and thanks JWG ... comment more will ya?

I wasn’t trying to seduce a link out of you, but thanks anyway. You three obviously put time and thought into quality posts, some of which I don’t agree with—and apparently, some of which you don’t agree with among the three of you. But it’s the deliberativeness and the way you treat others here that really makes QandO delightful. Sorry I came to the party late.

You guys deserve the props, Your posts are always thoughtful and respectful to other bloggers and such (except Roy Blount but he deserved it) and you manage to stay away from all that inflammatory rherotic that annoys me. Plus the podcast gives me something to look forward to on Monday morning. Both the informality and humor make it top notch. Keep it up. The best part is I get great commentary without Times Select! All from "tubes," who woulda thunk

Hey, I like QandO too, for maybe a couple of years now, for the usual reasons.

But this post is self-serving to the point of nauseating. I was waiting for the punchline, or some nod to irony.

Since when has self-satisfaction been interesting? I think it would’ve been more fitting and tasteful to maybe thank Jaded in his comments.

But hey, it’s your blog.

Give me a break. We rarely talk about ourselves at all. Nor do we toot our own horn as a blog. It’s OK to give ourselves props, frankly. In two years, we’ve gone from a new, startup blog to one of the most linked blogs in the world.

So, if we, on rare occasions, do a self-serving post, then you should just suck it up.

Cripes, there’s no pleasing some of you people.

Maybe I’m just not up on all the cool lingo you kids are using today, but WTF are "tubes"?

Yeah, it was self-serving, I admit it. I appreciated it. In fact I admit it in the post. I also categorized the whole post as "humor". Lighten up.

A blogger who happens to be a lawyer is fawning over Q and O, and, out of the whole archive, the Q and O post that this lawyer highlights is Dale’s post defending Greenwald against allegations of sock puppetry.

If I were the type who liked to indulge in conspiracy theories.....

Never mind.

Bully for QandO! I often disagree with you, but you’re almost always thoughtful, provocative without being incendiary, and principled without being bull-headed. You guys are what political blogging ought to be about.

Well, at least the praise was accurate.

Self serving?

Shoot, I thought that was what BLOGS were in the first place - someone randomly using the net as a kind of dairy and letting other people read what was on (or out of) their minds.

This place is something other, especially when matched against a lot of ’places’ where pitchforks, torches, angry mobs, and ropes seem to usually be the order of the day.

You must of missed it. Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) decided to school us on how the internet works.
Here’s Jon Stewart’s humorous montage about the issue. But of course, if you don’t like Jon Stewart, I’m sure that you can google it and find out.

It would be just fun and games mocking a crazy old man that happens to represent the people of Alaska and his foolish beliefs, if it were not for the fact that he’s the Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee in charge of regulating these “series of tubes”.

Oh, yeah… and cheers to QandO.

Dale’s post defending Greenwald against allegations of sock puppetry.
I must have missed that post. In which one does Dale "defending Greenwald against allegations of sock puppetry?"

I think we all agree that occurred. Maybe it’s just me but I thought Dale’s post was about how he thought the further pursuit of "evidence" - in the form of a time line - seemed silly.

You’re right, McQ.

My comment was intended as a purely tongue-in-cheek suggestion that Jaded JD was one of Greenwald’s sock puppets, and his blog entry praising Q and O was really just a pretext to draw attention to Dale’s post.

For the record, though I only recently began commenting here, I am a long-time admirer of the Q and O blog. Your blog has been one of my first stops on the internet every day for a long time now, and it is the only blog that I read regularly. I usually only go to other blogs when following a link.

Keep up the good work. Carry on!
