All 11 Egyptian students caught
Posted by: McQ on Monday, August 14, 2006

Other than being a strange story, I'm still not sure what all of this means, are you?
The last two of the 11 Egyptian exchange students who failed to show up at their college program were apprehended Sunday in Richmond, Va., customs officials said.

[...]

Last Wednesday, one of the Egyptian students was arrested in Minneapolis and two were detained in Manville, N.J. On Thursday, two were arrested in Dundalk, Md., and one was arrested at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. Three more were arrested Friday in Des Moines, Iowa.

The students were to attend a monthlong program at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. A group of 17 students arrived in New York on July 29. Six reported to Bozeman on time.

After Montana State repeatedly tried to contact the missing students, it notified Homeland Security Department officials and registered the Egyptians as no-shows in a system to track foreign students developed after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

None of the students is considered a terrorism risk.
I mean other than we have some sort of new system in which to track foreign students (which seems like a good thing) since 9/11. Do we have just as good a system to track people here on other types of visas?

That system doesn’t look all that good to me. The "missing" entries didn’t happen until the folks at the destination made the report to DHS, a day or so after the students were supposed to mave gotten there. So they had at least a whole 24 hours to get to wherever they wanted before anyone knew they were gone.

Why wasn’t there a DHS employee at the airport to verify that they arrived and to make sure that they got on the plane to their next destination (at the very least)?

Why on Earth are we still allowing 20-ish male Egyptian students to travel on student visas without even the most elementary of assurances that they will get to where they should be.

Sure, it means 11 idiots should be on the next plane back to Egypt, never to return...

Until they get ANOTHER student visa...
I don’t understand these lads. IF I was going to study I wouldn’t have chosen Montana U. that’s for sure, BUT if I were going to skip out on my visa, I’d sure never be causght in Md. NJ, Mn. and the like... Savanah Ga., South Padre island, Orlando. Las Vegas, I mean if I’m going to run afoul of Da Man at least I want Booze, Babes, Bikinis, Beaches, and Baccarat (Martini, Shaken not stirred). I believe they need to be deported for a serious FUN deficiency.

Federal authorities helped with the investigation into a possible terror threat to the Mackinac Bridge. The FBI office in Detroit worked with local law enforcement authorities before the police arrested three men in Caro on Friday. Officers found about 1,000 pre-paid cell phones in their van. Police in Caro arrested the three Palestinian-American men after they allegedly bought 80 of the phones at a Wal-Mart store in Caro.

I just do not understand the administrations utter failure to see what should be done. One of the FIRST things I would have done post 9/11 would be to immediately deport anyone hear on an over stayed visa form a terror exporting state. Any little thing, any misdemeanor, and your out of here. Then I would have ended ALL
student visas from terror exporting states.
There is no reason in hell we should even put up with this crap. GET EM ALL OUT OF HERE!
