Giuliani? You mean the guy who dressed up in drag on SNL? You mean Rudy the player? You mean the guy who is BFF with Kerik?
Man, and I thought the Dem-oritented blogosphere was out of touch with the mainstream of its party. Kinda makes old Kos look like a pitch down the middle of the plate. Rudy? The right blogosphere has got to be out of its mind.
The day America’s Mayor becomes the presidential nominee for what has effectively become a southern based, evangelical Christian (read non-Catholic) political party is the day that frogs fly.
No, no, no. George Felix Allen from the Commonwealth of Virginia will be the GOP nominee. And that ain’t no monkey business. |

Mitt Romney, Bill Owens...some capable Governor will get it. Allen has a shot but the Religious Right was in slow decline after 9/11 with the dumb "faith leader" remark of the month, then went into freefall after the Teri Schiavo fiasco (which also marked Bush’s end of having more positive than neg personal approval in the polls). If Allen is almost beaten by Webb, he’s damaged. If Webb beats him, he’s toast.
Mitt Romney impresses me. He made his reputation as a leader who could turn around incredibly fouled up situations, and as a creator of innovative solutions anticipating future problems. Guy has great appeal West, Rocky MT states, Northeast, Michigan and his appeal weakness is in states where Hillary is thought to be the Devil Incarnate. Almost as bright as Newt...but Newt has big negatives..unlikability...Newt would make a heck of a good VP taking on critical projects and liaisoning with Congress.*
Funny thing is that there is this other Governor - 10 years of running a major state without Pataki’s problems — who got high marks for most of his long tenure. He is smart. He has a big demographic plus of a Mexican wife and Hispanic kids. He is an excellent campaigner, good in crisis, and well regarded by most Republicans. Almost perfect except for one thing. Unfortunately, he is totally and irrevocably screwed from ever being President by having Dubya as his older brother..
* A Romney-Gingrich ticket would have great brainpower. But the smartest US Presidents are a mixed lot. Jefferson, Madison, Lincoln, Hoover, Nixon, and Clinton. |

But overall I agree with you - he’s probably the most qualified, and his Dad has even said of the three of them, Jeb would be the best in the White House. |

MK, I’d agree with you, HORRORS, about Rudi...the rest is pretty silly. First, the RELIGIOUS tend to vote Republican, PERIOD, so it ain’t just Protestants, you might want to revise THAT talking point. Further, can’t it plausibly be argued that the Democratic Party is the Urban, SECULAR, Bi-Coastal Party... rather regional and limited ITSELF? Sorry babeee, but when yuo try to make it out that one Party is somehow this uni-dimensional entity it just doesn’t fly. |

is mk arguing that Guilliani represents the left side of the blogosphere?
Not that it really matters since not everything is about partisanship. I’d be very happy with a social liberal republican in the white house, I mean, we are libertarians right? |
