Al-Jazeera airs video meeting of bin Laden and 9/11 Hijackers
Posted by: McQ on Thursday, September 07, 2006

The thought that first struck me when I heard this:
Al Jazeera has just run video showing Osama bin Laden meeting with some of the 9/11 hijackers. The video was produced by al Qaeda's media arm as Sahab. Earlier today as Sahab had announced on an Islamist message board that it would release a "September 11th" video on the internet soon.

The video shows some of the hijackers training with bin Laden prior to 9/11. It also features the "martyr" statements of Wail M. Alshehri (alt, al-Shehri). One of two brothers who helped hijack American Airlines flight 11 and crash it into the WTC. The other "martyrdom" video is of Ahmed Alghamdi (alt, al-Ghamdi).
Was whether it would finally be enough to end this:
The 9/11 terrorist attack on America which left almost 3,000 people dead was an "inside job", according to a group of leading academics.

Around 75 top professors and leading scientists believe the attacks were puppeteered by war mongers in the White House to justify the invasion and the occupation of oil-rich Arab countries.
Of course, this has become a cottage industry for some, and being a capitalist I can appreciate the effort. It also promises future employment for Cynthia McKinney and scores like her, some of whom visit and comment at this very blog.

All of that to say, nope, not enough. One just has to observe the refusal to let the Plame non-story die a long overdue death to understand that.

[Oh, and what is a "leading scientist" or "leading academic" and how would one ever get roped into something like the above if they were "leading" in anything?]

When you have a political faction composed of feminists who will march side by side with medieval fanatics who consider women property, and gays who will support those who given power would stone them to death, then there is no limit to their ability to swallow contradiction.

Scattershooting, Rummy Style.....

Is it possible Bin Ladin worked with the shadow government to perpetrate the deed? Sending his family home on jets when everything else was grounded seems to suggest some type of relationship.

Should we trust Bin Ladin to send us un-doctored video?
According to McQ, of course. Makes perfect sense.

Does Al Qaeda benefit from their association to the 911 attacks? Of course they do. If they denied it, they lose their top recruiting leverage; demonstration of the ’vulnerability’ of the US.

did it take Bin Ladin almost 3 years to connect himself to 911? From what I remember, yes.

Have these alleged perpetrators, aka hijackers shown up alive at other places long after 9/11/01? Yup.

Are there ongoing questions regarding the attacks such as the collapse of Building 7 and the relatively small hole at the Pentagon?? Not according to McQ, for Bin Ladin would NEVER lie to McQ.

Does McQ trust Bin Ladin to tell the truth and avoid propaganda?

Apparantly so....

Does this tape make Bin Ladin seem ’more scarey’ or ’more powerful and evil’? Yup!

Is it not wierd timing that this was released close to the 5 year anniversary? It is to me.

Does this timing help Republicans? I’d say yes.

Now, why would Boogie Man Bin Ladin want to help the Republicans, like he did in Octover of 2004. Only McQ can answer that.

Is it more successful to work terror in the shadows, and not telegraph your implication utilizing that bastion of Truth & Accuracy; Al-Jezerra?
It would seem so...

Has McQ ever questioned Al-Jezerra’s fairness and accuracy? Only when it suits his arguements (smirk)

Can McQ translate the Arabic spoken to make sure the translation has not been ’juiced’? Probably not.

Does McQ know Bin Ladin’s voice? It would appear to be the case.

Are audio and video scenes editable? Did you see "Wag the Dog"?

Does McQ despeartely cling to the tenacious storyline that "Bush was sent by Jehova to protect us all"?

Nah, even he ain’t THAT dumb!

Does this video prove anything, really? Only that there are those, on both sides, who blindly believe that what Bin Ladin says is truth.

I think it’s the same leading scientists who claim global warming is undeniable.

Sorry, Jon. j/k...

And here’s McQ covering for him... like McQ is a Libertarian...It’s obvious the ONLY libertarian(s) left are Glenn Greenwald and Mona!

Bah, conspiracy theory amateurs.

The American Left is behind the two towers coming down. They hired out to their good buddy bin Laden to take care of flying the planes into the Two Towers. Chomsky himself planted the explosives.

Why, you ask? So they could one more thing on Bush, while also striking a blow at the Great Satan. They also knew how Bush would react and they were confident that the crushing Nazi state they just knew the Administration would impose would push more people into their camp. Remember, three steps forward, two steps back.

The left had nothing to lose and everything to gain! Mu-hu-ha-ha-ha! Wheels within wheels within wheels! Only an idiot would believe that the Bush Administration actually pulled this off. They’re utterly incompetent, remember?

Or, maybe angry Musilms actually managed to strike a major blow with hijacked planes. But which is easier to believe, angry Muslims or massive, Chomsky-led conspiracies?

No, Rick, they haven’t.

As for your other claims, it would take too long to refute you. I don’t want to use up QandO’s bandwith publishing patently obvious stuff that you wouldn’t believe in any case.

Is Rick D serious? I have trouble imagining anybody really believes these theories. I’m an academic and I speak with academics every day, most of whom are on the leftward end of the political spectrum. Never have I ever heard anybody suggest that Bush and Cheney were behind 9/11.

It seems that the more worldly the country gets with all the muslims coming in and other religions that don’t click that we don’t have the same patriots that we did back around 1950. Mabe the country needs to pay attention to the good old boys because in a fight, I would much rather have one behind me.

Sure there was some relationship to the family, but not to Osama. At least get your facts straight.
Two days later, 13 bin Ladens were cleared by the White House to fly out of the United States when overseas flights were again cleared for departure. The New York Times reported that they were quickly called together by officials from the Saudi Embassy, which feared that they might become the victims of American reprisals. With approval from the F.B.I., according to a Saudi official, the bin Ladens flew by private jet from Los Angeles to Orlando, then on to Washington, D.C. and finally to Boston. Once the FAA permitted overseas flights, the jet flew to Europe.

McQ, very good point about "leading academics," etc. If you remember back a bit, this document got some great media play a few years ago. They have since updated the official statement, however if you examine the credentials of some of the signatories, they become, shall we say, less than convincing as concerns said signatories being (A) historians (B) American history specialists (since we’re dealing with AMERICAN history here) (C) Scholars of Constitutional history (again, since they are claiming that the Constitution is being undermined).

Just grabbing a random sampling (starting at the bottom) we see:

1. Angela Zito: professor of religious studies and anthropology. Published works and declared specialty: gender and Chinese cultural history

2. Judith Zinsser : professor of history. Specialty women’s history. Dissertation was done on the history of women in the historical professions; thesis was on the war against revolutionary France.

3. Larry Yarak : professor of history. Specialty African history (specifically Ghana).

4. Elizabeth Wood : professor of history. Specialty history of women in the Soviet Union.

5. Jane Wickersham: professor of history. Specialty Italian Renaissance history.

6. Amy Black Voorhees: specialty history of religion.

7. Adam Tooze: senior lecturer, Modern European history.

8. Edward Steinhart: professor of history. Most recent projects include a history of hunting in Africa, a seminar on animals and human society, and a paper on imperial hunting traditions.

9. Karen Spierling: professor of history and religious studies. Specialties include history of the family and children, early modern Europe, and the Reformation.

Saving the best for last:

10. Marty Smith: social psychologist

With further careful review, it can be easily discerned that many of those who signed this document are either specialists in gender or ethnic studies, not historians, or graduate students. Those who do fit the definition of "American history specialists" are relatively rare and many of them have published and researched fields unrelated to the US Constitution or US foreign policy. When an organization is using the expertise of its members/signatories as the basis of its claim to legitimacy, it had better make sure that those members have legitimate, relevant credentials. In this case, I think that we can see those credentials are badly lacking. So much for "leading academics."

Thanks to Rick for that refreshing mental health checkup. I passed.

why would Boogie Man Bin Ladin want to help the Republicans, like he did in Octover of 2004 ?

There is a simple answer.

He doesn’t want to be made to endure a visit by Jesse Jackson or Jimmy Carter.

There were stories of Atta visiting the WTC prior to 9/11. Perhaps he pre-staged the (tons of) explosives that brought down the buildings, then killed himself (by smashing jets) to cover up his real plot. Those Arabs are clever.

Or maybe those planes you saw hitting the WTC were actually UFOs. The Pentagon also a UFO, the hole in Shanksville was the disposable staging vehicle. Perhaps, Klaatu and Gort (the robot) are inciting a war between factions on earth to keep them from going out into space and bringing the worst that humanity has to offer (Big Macs, Islam, Seinfeld, etc.) with them.

But more to the point .. why didn’t Lee Harvey buy a better gun ? Why did Bobby have to use the kitchen ? Was it really necessary for Martin Luther King Jr. to support a garbage strike in Memphis ? Just where are Natalee Holloway, Judge Crater and Jimmy Hoffa ? What is the ultimate question of the universe with an answer of "42" ?

If Bush & Co were so clever, why didn’t they put some WMD’s in the Iraqi ground somewhere after they conquered that country? In other words: I think all these plotting theories are baloney, nothing else. Another thing is that Bush & Co are the first plot theorists: they believe(d) Bin Laden & Al Qaeda did it. That’s nonsense as well: Mohamed Atta & 14 North-Saudi’s and a few others from Egypt, Libanon and the United Arab Emirates did it. Perhaps they felt incited by Bin Laden’s jihadist theories to do what they did, but that’s probably the extent of his involvement. Atta c.s. were smart enough (engineers, etc.) themselves to have planned, organised and executed the whole thing. Frustrating indeed: the real perpetrators condemned and executed themselves 5 years ago. In the mean time Bush marketed the brand ’Al Qaeda’ all for free, Bin Laden didn’t need to spend one dollar in order to terrorize the world, Bush and his onedimensional reactionaries saw to that!
