And I’ll bet he thinks the phrase "Where there is smoke there is fire" is a statement of cause and effect. |

I like this fellow. A regular Noam Chumpsky :)
The only reason petroleum wasn’t used at the time was because oligarchic whale oil combinations in the Northeast and slave holding interests in the South were keeping it from us.
What’s really screwy is that the Moonbats have driven the tone of discourse so far into left field that I had to read a couple other blog entries to tell this guy was being faseeshus. Faceetious. He was kiddin’. |

Neo, you got that wrong its Chimpy McHaliburton.
This is all so amusing to us here in the oil patch. Bush lives right down the road, My dad worked for Haliburton and my wife works for Conoco Phillips. And for many years I was in the oil/gas service industry.
Ever so often we are the bad guys. It’s like clockwork. While the idiots who write this kinda crap know even less about economics than they do about the energy industry.
Now What I want to know is the next time there is a bust in the price of oil and everyone around here is out of work, are they going to remember us and offer us a little sympathy? HHHMMM, I guess not. No, whats likely to happen is when oil prices drop again they will forget about their plans to buy a Hybrid, and will run out to get the latest Hummer or Excursion. |

When people keep hearing "big oil", or how they’ve had record profits, they believe that the oil companies have a close monopoly in the oil market. Of course we know better that their share of oil, and thus power over prices, is fairly small compared to what Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Venezuela control by means of the state.
I’m citing a statistic from the top of my head here, but I recall that about 40% or more of Americans also believe that the Republicans in office are and will be manipulating gas prices as an election ploy. Of those I remember that two thirds were democrats. |

It is an old game, drive prices higher just at the time when we need it the most and let them decline just when we don’t use it as much.
Hey wait I read about this somewhere. Where was it again? Oh yeah my college economics textbook under the chapter titled SUPPLY AND DEMAND
The other thing that folks dont realize is who makes up Big Oil?
It is the stockholders. Folks like your neighbors, friends, grandparents, your 401k account. Anyone can buy a piece of big oil. If the idiots who spout the "big oil is evil" theories put so much stock in them why dont they buy stock in them? |

We strive for diversity. Omar the Jihadist, Michael’s a John Bircher and Lance was a Tony Kushner trained Marxist. (That last bit is true by the way, we live in a strange world, operative term "was" and a long time ago.) |

The problem is, "Satire is dead." You CAN’T satire these people...I mean in the EARLY 1970’s Monty Python lampooned the Labour Party by the use of the "Silly Party" and "The Very Silly Party." By the 1980’s when one watched the Labour Party Conference on the tellie they were saying things equally outrageous that only a decade prior had been HUMOUR!
When the "Intellectual Elite" of one side has gone off the deep end, one can no longer lampoon or satirize them, because well they say things like this in EARNEST, or their houses, if they’re not in Earnest. Any way how does one lampoon someone when they could just as plausibly being saying it for real? |

"are they going to remember us and offer us a little sympathy?"
No way Kyle, in times such as those, you’ll just have to sell off one of your 7 Benzes or the 5th house if you want to continue eating the Caviar-O’s for breakfast.

Good heavens no! Why should they, when you are living in a luxurious retirement paid for with money stolen from us victimized consumers? |

Lance,
A satire so subtle that the moonbats don’t recognize the spanking? Dude, that’s genius.
However, I must give props to Augustus: if I hadn’t read your blog regularly - and your comments here - I might have thought that a moonbat wrote it. When the principle of supply and demand from your your freshman year econ course have to be explained to them and then often defended from them, you know that the discourse has gone waaaaaay too far left... |

Cheney/Rove/Lay invaded Iraq because the ghost of Sam Walton needed to pay back Republican shill Jesus for Katrina, which as we all know was a rightwing plot to force poor black kids to walk to school. Know who owns the buses that were underwater? The Carlyle Group! That’s who!
Now you Oily Reichwingers are killing off peace loving vegetarians. How can we compassionate Progressyves burn down the homes of SUV salesmen, in the name of Gaia!, if you dumb rednecks keep putting E.Coli in our spinach?
Why was Rummy shaking hands with Hussein while women and minorities can’t get free health care? Why does Bush talk about freedom when he puts Jose Padilla in jail for the crime of having a name that sounds ’undocumented’? Huh? Huh?
You guys stole the 2000 election and the world’s innocence. The world wants to live free in their mud huts, away from the tyranny of GE and Minolta. Yet, you uncaring Rethuglicants give away free pharmaceuticals when all the natives want is good intentions.
I question the timing. |

Warrior,
Uh, thanks. That is so kind, but a little embarrassing given that real satirical genius walks amongst us. I feel a little like Salieri must have felt when praised in the presence of Mozart. I am not hoping for Pogue’s demise however. If you haven’t been, go! Now! Read back a few weeks if the first thing doesn’t strike your fancy, there is something for everyone. When you have a chance you are free to do the same at our somewhat less amusing site as well. |

It’s true, at least in California, that gas prices rise in the summer and decline after, because, as retired military points out, demand is higher in the summer. But it’s always been that way regardless of which party occupies the Whitehouse or controls Congress. |
