The Senate race in VA has gotten pretty sad.

Let me just say for the sake of honesty, I grew up as a lower middle class white boy in the south and hell yes I used the word N*gger, as well as any other racial slur you can imagine.

But guess what? I grew up, I played sports, went to school, worked, and even went to church with black people, and asian people, and hispanic people. Now I can honestly say that I have not a racist bone in my body.

You see, people change, Ideas also change. Its called growth, and being human.

Now if we could just get rid of those damn Eskimos we would all be in good shape!

Okay, now that we’ve gotten THAT issue into the open maybe the whole matter will just recede in importance like the "Culture Of Corruption(C)(R)(TM)" meme.

I’m flattered.

As for Allen, he has no one to blame but himself.

As for Webb, he did the smart, honest and adult thing: he admitted using the word, but not as an eptithet. Allen, by contrast, denied ever using the word.

Now, raise your hand if you believe that Allen has never, ever said the word.

As I said before, Allen’s biggest problem isn’t that he is a perceived racist, it is that he is a liar. The same observation applies to his recent statement that as far as he knew, his mother was raised a Christian. At the time he made that statement, as Jonathan Alter points out in this week’s Newsweek, his mother had already told him she was raised as a Jew. In other words, he lied.

Worse, instead of admitting that he lied, Allen, thru his surrogates, accused his political opponents of being anti-Semitic. In other words, rather than telling the truth about his heritage, he smeared his political opponents as racists. What a piece of sh*t.

Is this whole campaign "sad"? No, only George Allen.

I’m dying to hear CAP’s (ego generated alteration) comments on this one...
What do you expect from a couple of Republicans.

I guess we should have run a real Democrat.

(next, someone is going to respond, and rightly so, with something clever like, "You mean a real Democrat like Robert KKK Byrd?".)

To which I’ll respond that Byrd and racist segregationist Southern Democrats have either left the party for the RNC or they have moderated their views.

And then we’ll go blah, blah, blah, "your party’s racist", "no your party’s racist", and in the end, absoutely nothing will change, but we will have duplicated the same argument on the web for 6,787,739th time.

MK, what was it, I can barely remember "I smoked pot but I never inhaled". Same old intellectually immature argument that only a shallow pandering fool would try and pull off. Your problem is you are trying to differentiate between lying and spinning to help your guy. Where I come from that makes 3 weasels. Allen, Webb, MK

PS Why don’t you suggest Allen wear a yellow star of david arm band so you and your buddies (Webb, Barefoot, MSM) can differentiate him from other true blood Virginians.

Now if only Allan is disbarred for perjury then mkultra can support him.

Hey MK-studly, did you not read the allegation about Webb driving through Watts pointing guns at people, calling them n*gger, etc?
Or did you wanna just gloss over that charge?
(Yeah, yeah, I know, can’t be true of course....)

And since we’re fessin up, yes, in fact, it was in one of the first hide-and-go-seek rhymes I can remember learning as a kid -
"Eenee-meany-minney-moe..."
I’d nearly defy any kid who grew up in the 50’s and 60’s US to say they have never said that word.

Growing up as a yankee kid where I was, and at that time, there just weren’t many blacks to be seen, so it wasn’t a word we commonly used.

The mistake leftwise people keep making is the pretense that prejudice can’t exist anymore in the Democratic party, and is the sole province of the Republican party these days.

heh-heh, yeah, right.

Did Clinton lie? Sure. Did he turn around and call his opponents racists? Not that I recall. It’s one thing to lie about ones ethnic background. It’s another thing entirely to then turn around and call your political opponents anti-semites. Here is what the Allen Blog says:
The shockingly hateful language emanating from the Webb campaign, Webb allies and Webb fundraisers continues. From Jewish people, to Senator Allen and his family, to Virginians across the state, Webb’s allies are trying to be offensive to them…
Allen is in the gutter.

Oh, and Macaca is something he made up, no, it’s a mohawk, no, it’s something else ....

Mk,

Yes Clinton did call his opponents racist. In fact he and his campaign made up egregious racist arguments that ran as ads! He also helped fan the flames of the bogus church burning hoax. So yeah, he did it big time.

So MK you throw support behind the guy who lies but really doesn’t mean to. Way to stay on the moral high ground. Also I think your driving fast on ice using the Clinton analogies. I can understand why you identify with him so much although, a world where there are never consequences for you actions sound blissful.

MK Where is the society of true blood Virginians going to go next??

To follow MK train of thought. If I just say Jew enough, then more voters will turn away from voting for him in good ol VA. YEH Buddy your on the high ground with that argument.

So does BIG JIM WEBB (Boots and all) think the way you think or you just think he not saying the right things to get elected?

One of the incidents during the Clinton administration that I still find amusing was when Lloyd Bentsen, the distinguished Senator from the great state of Texas, was nominated to be Sec. or the Treasury. It was revealed that he belonged to a "restricted" country club. No problem, though, he immediately resigned his membership and he was confirmed. When he left Washington, he rejoined the "restricted" country club. Gee, what a surprise. One wonders if the N word ever passed his lips.

Just wait. When Allen is sitting in the White House in 2008, you will all change your tune.

William you just don’t get it. If it was wrong for politician 1 than it is wrong for politician 2 somethings just can’t be spun. It has nothing to do with who is going to be in office in 2+ years. That is why Clinton had so many problems, he keeps trying to spin the obvious.

Echoing Coaster’s comment, if Allen had used the word "Nip" or "Hymie" in the gym locker-room in his twenties, would the Dem’s even care?

Fact is, modern pop-culture has hollowed-out the word "n_gger," so that, in late 2006, "n_gger" is just syllables. After twenty years of MTV-Rap, and the ghetto-ese "Yo, Nigga!", the word has a thousand modern meanings and usages - some positive, some derogatory, none concrete.

So, get over it!

Furthermore, I’m amazed that, on a libertarian website, thoughtful people are buying into the idea that a hear-say report of the word’s utterance in a college locker-room might suggest something about the utterer’s potential viability for political office, 30+ years later.

Lordy, lordy. Come-on, Democrats - it’s time to grow-up and smell the pop-culture you’ve helped brew! I know you’re in danger of losing the suport of Black pro-American voters in 2006. But, pointing out the skidmarks on Allen’s college gym shorts ain’t goin’ to bring ’em back to your plantation.
-Steve
PS: I notice that "n_gger" is a banned word on Qand)’s comments, but that "Hymie," "Nip" and "Faggot" aren’t.

You know, black people are probably not upset. It would have been expected of both candidates had use the word sometimes, if they were older than forty five. I think it would disturb blacks now if it was found out that either canidate used the "n" word now in daily conversation.
Interesting, a phamlet from the sixties movement at Berkely used the "n" word in its title, "The Student as N*gg*r." It was distributed across many campuses. That use didn’t seem to bother the black students I knew.

You are probably right. Two white crackers trying to get a seat at the establishment trough, and using black folks to get there. What’s new?

I’m glad I don’t live in Virginia, but maybe I got it all backwards.

It seems that Virginia has so few problems that all they can talk about in elections is the use of words.

First, it was macaca (species of old world monkey). Talking about monkeys does seem to have a few drawbacks .. the last guy who called a somebody a monkey took a powder.

Next, it was the N-word. A word that everyone is afraid to ever say, for fear of being branded a racist cracker.

One can only assume after the campaigns and the press finish with other racial and ethnic slurs that perhaps, just perhaps, they will move on to words like: budget, education, defense, economy, energy, healthcare, pensions, families and communities.

I feel a little ashamed for resurrecting the "plantation" meme in my comment above.

Today, in 2006, it’s a scurrilous, ugly meme, that bites. Kind of like a snappy Chihuahua with bad breath.

Maybe its a sign that the tone of American race-relations really has changed for the better. If reactionary rhetorical quips that sounded OK in 1992 now ring dull, I’d say that’s progress.

timeactual,
You know that is just the way things are, but you think so little of blacks, that we can’t possible see through that. You can think of no other reason blacks would vote for someone, unless the candidates kiss our butts.
