This was known for atleast 11 months. Which means its quite likely this was sat on for months before it was leaked. Months the Republican could have replaced foley and had a chance to win.
The House leadership knew, but they were asked not to pursue it by the boy’s parents. And the leadership has to function with a higher standard than the press. Innocent until proven guilty and all that. But someone took it upon themselves to leak this today instead of months ago.
Who is worse? A [potential] pedophile or someone who lets a pedophile run free for months in order to guarantee an election win? |

Nonsense. The leadership has to make clear to the alledged perpetrator of whatever is is he is alledged to have perpetrated that if he embarrasses the party he will be stomped on. Or, it could wither away, like Hastert’s interference with the investigation of William Jefferson.
From the AP report I’ve seen, since Hastert sent someone to check on it, he knew at least something.
I guess they’re lucky it leaked on a Friday, right?
And, I wouldn’t have put it past the Dems to have covered up as well. But the least they could have done is quietly forced the guy out. Hell, even quietly ended the page program. Who knows, maybe they did, and we’ll learn of it.

I will admit to occasionally making a jackass of myself, but I do take exception to the word deceptive. Don’t blame me for your admitted laziness. After reading all the trash about the Va. senate campaign, I want evidence. I do not know what "fisking" is, but if it means I want something more than an accusation, then I am guilty.

I assume you mean the actions of the leadership. I think they were stupid and unethical, if not criminal. As I said, they should have confronted him, and in any case they should have informed the police, in spite of the parent’s wishes. Whoever sat on this for 11 months should be charged with some crime, if possible, and should certainly be held liable in a civil case if it turns out some other minor was victimized later. As you pointed out, this is not the first time Hastert et al. were soft on a member. Hastert should go. Clear enough?
As I may have said, I do not mind(too much; I’m rather used to it) being called jackass, fool, buffoon, etc., but I do not like being called deceptive, dishonest, etc. I always try to go out of my way to make clear what I consider to be fact, and what is my opinion, or how reliable my alledged facts or memory are. If you find an instance where I am being dishonest, do please publicize it. I may even have an explanation. And I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt, which was why I asked a question instead of making an accusation.
