First, glad you noticed. Read Beck.
I’ve been in email contact with him and apparently his ISP crashed pretty hard. An email suggested they were working furiously, but now even the ISP homepage is down, and down for a good while by now.
I’m leaving Billy alone, as he’s probably busy with this, and doesn’t need my help anyhoo, but it will probably take some time to find a replacement ISP, get the DNS worked out, and restore. His backup was two months old (shame), but he’s captured up to a few days ago via Google’s cache. |

Just got off the phone with Billy a few minutes ago. Apparently, the ISP blew up the server, in an update attempt on Tuesday. I didn’t know it myself till now, since I don’t hist most sites directly, instead using a reader... and decided to see what was what when he seemed a little quiet.
That’s serious enough, but naught more than that.

Thats good. I was worried about the url I was getting: http://suspended.page/ Afraid he fell victim to some b/s "hate speech" thing from the isp. |

Not the ISP, Eric: the hosting company where all my Web stuff lives. From everything I can gather, it’s an automated CPanel update that blew up.
That "suspended page" is ridiculous, but that’s nothing compared to the rest of this.
Believe it or not, I’m going to ride it through the weekend. I’ve begun research on a new host, but crossed with the fury behind a couple of aspects of this thing (like not communicating with customers very well at all) is also an understanding of how things like this happen. I want to see what these people look like coming out the back end of this. Besides: I have intensive band rehearsals this weekend (lashing up new material for the Oct. 20 gig) — between that and the drawings in the front half of the week, I just haven’t had time to work this as hard as I would need to in order to get back up this rapidly.
Here’s the broad stroke:
Barring some bloody car crash or something, you’re never going to see me just wink-out like that. I’m in this for the long haul, and if that ever changes, I’ll say so, explicitly.
Thanx for asking, Dale. |

I end up using "ISP" and "host" interchangeably, quite a bit. It’s a bad habit, from the old days, from when ISP’s actually did hosting... I was involved in two such situations, over the years.... back when Grok was still Clan leader, and a 2400 buad modem was considered fast.
ChrisB, above, gives voice to the thought that I had what I called down your way. That thought was amplified by the idea that "No Treason" was also a out of action.
My other thought...an accident such as you describe... would have shown up in my searches, but even had I found such, that still wouldn’t explain "No Treason", and I was concerned there was a link. (Chris’s "Hate Speech")
So, I ruled an accident out right off the bat. And of course, I knew darned well you were NOT going to just fade away, that’s not you. I know you that well, anyway. Which is what raised my curiosity to begin with, when you didn’t show up in my reader for several days.
In any event, I’m glad to see that my larger concerns weren’t true.
