Shrill, angry, condescending, and inchoate does not play very well to a mass audience, Gee who would have thunk it? |

Well, a lot of it had to do with their business model as well. They demanded stations take all or none of their programing instead of offering ala carte selections. Not exactly the best way to approach the business as I understand it. |

Well, a lot of it had to do with their business model as well. They demanded stations take all or none of their programing instead of offering ala carte selections. Not exactly the best way to approach the business as I understand it. Quite true. The situation as you describe it, was rather handily demonstrated a failure with the old ABC TalkRadio, who tried the same thing, back in the early 80’s. While they tended to lean a little to the left, (With the notable exception of Ray Breem’s show) they certainly were not a shrill as Err America ended up being.
As for the remaining excesses, most of which were financial, in reality they want all that far out of line with what other networks have done in the past, particularly those that wanted to make a large splash. The trouble was, that those excesses were never throttled in the face of the reality of the minuscule numbers they were turning in.
Personally, I’m looking forward to some serious investigations into the finances of these people and their network. For example how much of the networks losses were written off on taxes for George Soros for example?
Also, while I think elections would be better served by most Federal elections officials jumping into a tub of battery acid, I would be interested in an explanation as to why the Federal elections commission never bothered investigating the nonstop electioneering taking place on that network.
oh, wait, I get it now; they’re not republicans, therefore they can’t be investigated. |

I’m a liberal and I hated Air America Radio. It sounded like a bunch of left-wing Rush Limbaugh’s and Sean Hannity’s, acting all indignant and self-satisfied all the time. I’ll stick with the blogs, thank you. I can even hear what the other side has to say without driving off the road in anger!
McQ, I think you are right about their business model. Some talkers, like Ed Schultz, are very popular. Al Franken was a bust as a talker, even though I liked his books. And the others were comically awful. Jerry Springer? Give me a break. AAR made local affiliates run the whole package. |

Limbaugh does pretty well, so that’s at least one counter example.
Seriously, I’m with Elrod, mirroring the obnoxious Right Wing hosts with obnoxious Left Wing ones doesn’t make me want to listen any more. |
