I'm sure it's been obvious from my recent contribution level to the blog that my schedule is very tight at the moment. I hope it will be lightening up soon, but, then, I always hope that, so, there you go.

In any event, I have made some progress on my WWII rank insignia project. Happily, I've now finished the insignia for the USSR, which was very bothersome and time consuming. Not only because many of their insignia are especially intricate to draw, but because they also completely changed the rank insignia for the Soviet Army in 1943, which means I had to do double duty in finishing that one.

And the British, with their regimental system, required a lot of extra work, just in coloring all the damned pips they use.

Well, I would. Except you’re using a version of Flash later than 7. No Linux support.

Heaven forbid that you’d use something other than a boutique operating system for which there is broad support.

You want to geek yourself out with Linux, then hey, knock yourself out. But don’t expect the rest of the world to cater to you.

Hey now, I enjoy your insignia but I can’t see anything either, because my patience with upgrading Flash ran out at Flash 7. It’s not just the Linux geeks on the out here - I bathe regularly!

What’s the technical limitation anyhow? Are you relying on a feature added since Flash 7, or does Flash add some voodoo now in an attempt to force everyone to update even though the content should be backwards compatible?

Well, if taking 5 minutes every year to upgrade to a new version of the Flash player tests your patience too much, I dunno what to tell you. Flash 8 has been the standard player for 18 months now.
