I didn’t think very highly of President Ford on a lot of policies. But I will give him this. In a time when the Democrats ran congress with big majorities. He used the veto early and often and so controlled spending. That is something I wish future presidents would learn from him. |

In his own words, he was "a Ford, not a Lincoln", and like Kyle I had mixed feelings about his policies. But at least I respected him. There was not a shred of pretension about him, and that’s rare indeed among our political elites.
Another classy characterisic: he was beaten at the ballot box, and we rarely heard from him afterwards. The highest ranking useful idiot in American History could take some pointers from that. |

Another classy characterisic: he was beaten at the ballot box, and we rarely heard from him afterwards. We rarely heard from Jimmy Carter either, until he became so provoked that he felt compelled to speak out.
Maybe if Gerry and George H. W. had the balls to speak their minds, we would not be in the mess we are in.
And now we know that Gerry. like Jimmy Carter, thought this war was a bad idea too, at least as it was sold.
Gerry Ford was a classy guy, but not because of his silence.
