The iPhone
Posted by: Dale Franks on Tuesday, January 09, 2007

Okay, I want this. The only question is whether to switch to Cingular to get one later this year, or wait until Motorola, Nokia, or Samsung to come out with a knock-off for Verizon subscribers.

There is no way that Apple won’t sell an unlocked version - eventually. 6 month exclusive maybe, then it will be available with TMobile no doubt.

Wow. I mean, wow. The thing I hate about technology is that it makes you realize how bad-off you’ve been your whole life. I never realized until I saw that presentation that my whole life has been preparing me for the moment when I can get my hands on an iPhone.

I say that only somewhat tongue in cheek. Frankly, it looks amazing, but I do wonder in my more philosophical moments, where will it end?

Yeah, you jump on the Motorola knock off. Just like all those people just luvin thier Zunes. I’ll stick with the real deal. (Of course, I have been using Macs since 95 and already use Cingular.)

Hey, I like the Zune so far. The Zune Marketplace isn’t as, shall we say, robust, as Itunes, but it’s going to grow. Besides, I despise all things Apple, so I guess I bring an equal (though opposite) bias to the MP3 wars.

I wonder if it will work with Cingular Pay as you go?

Apple triumphs again!

I spent an hour and a half looking at it last night. No way I get the knock off. The integration is the key and nobody will be able to get such a full powered interface, browser and OS integrated anytime soon besides Apple.

I am so disappointed, but Pete will just be crushed.

Verizon uses CDMA technology whereas Cingular uses GSM. I presume that iPHONE uses GSM. Usually it will be a while (maybe a year or two) before cool phones that are GSM-enabled are available in CDMA..You will have to wait for a long time..

Around the same time we get computer chips integrated with our neural networks and are ’plugged in’ 24/7.

Nope. Then we start to go organic, grow your own.

Lol, Lance. I can’t help it. Apple (and Macs) are so ... San Francisco.

It doesn’t stop; that’s the beauty of it.

Yeah, but just remember to use a hands-free headset in most states, otherwise you’ll get an iFine.

My plan: wait a year. Within 12 months the price will have come down, early adopters will have worked most (if not all) of the kinks out, and it’s at least possible if not likely that it will be available on Verizon by then. Unless I get six bills burning a hole in my pocket and lose what little self-discipline I have by June, in which case I will *definitely* be one of those poor geeks waiting in line all night for a Cingular store to open. It will be a close call.
