FCC checks out blogs on the Fairness Doctrine
Posted by: McQ on Friday, January 19, 2007

I'm always pleased to see our "public servants" interested in what we have to say out here in the blogosphere:

Here's the link to the NRO entry that got them to QandO and here are links to the two posts they checked out (it shows 3 page views so I assume they looked at the other one here as well).

Glad to see some opinion gathering going on (and yes, 3 page views in 54 seconds is just about enough time to scan and capture links or hit the "print" command, so save it).

But in reality, as concerns the return of the Fairness Doctrine, I tend to agree with Stephen Spruiell of the NRO Media Blog, "The Fairness Doctrine has about as much chance of coming back as I have of becoming surgeon general of the United States."

Hope so Doc.

Yeah, well, don’t get TOO excited, Billy.

In truth, I’ve noticed some traffic coming my way from both houses of Congress, of late... one of which came from the Sgt at Arms of the Senate’s system... and went from my place over to OTB. I called it to Joyner’s attention at the time, he may still have that one on record; I didn’t bother.

I’m not convinced the activity is particularly sinister, but I have noted a serious increase of late, in the hits I see from ’gov’ addresses, since November. They’re certainly watching... and in larger numbers than when Congress was in Republican hands... Take it as you will.

I suspected when I made the comment to James we were not alone... and I’ll take Bruce’s post as confirmation.

I’m not suggesting anything sinister by it ... I just found it interesting (btw, the "Senate Sgt of Arms" ( showed up twice here today as well).

They showed up again today, too.
And No, Bruce...Neither do I, really.... yet.

I worded my comment that way, however, to indicate that it wouldn’t take much to start me thinking that way. My thought is that one indicator already leans that way.... that being the timing of the increase in traffic coming from those networks.... so soon after the Democrat takeover, and almost in phase with talk of blog regulation, ala ’Fairness Doctrine’...

The other is that they show up at MY place at ALL.

Look... Not that Bitsblog isn’t good and all, and does OK for hits, and has it’s moments... but let’s be honest...I’m not getting a daily hit rate near to what this place or some others... OTB, or RWN,for example, get.

The sudden interest in my little place, and an even number of hist elsewhere... your place, for one... from such sources... is suggestive to my mind of someone being quite comprehensive in their examinations of what is going on in blogdom. AS such, I cannot believe that we’d be alone in this. It seems clear to me that there’s a comprehensive effort going on. At the least, it would explain quite a bit.

I don’t know what the next indicators would be, but I’ll know them when I see them.
