Dale Franks and the U of Chicago Graduate School of Business
Posted by: McQ on Monday, January 29, 2007

It has been brought to my attention that one of our co-bloggers, Dale Franks, has had his book on economics listed on an 5 book list of recommended reading by Michael Gibbs, a Clinical Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

No kidding. His, "Slackernomics" is listed with that of Milton Friedman's "Free to Choose" and Gary Becker's "The Economics of Life".

Folks if you're writing books on economics, that's a pretty short and impressive list to be on not to mention a pretty prestigious University to boot.

Oh, and yes, it is available through Amazon (free plug Dale!).

UPDATE [Dale]: Modesty (false though it may be) prohibits me from commenting on this too much, except to say that I'm gratified to see my book on the list. I'm curious to know how it got there, too. Usually, books that use the phrase "Perverts need vaseline," when describing supply and demand in the petroleum industry, aren't candidates for graduate school reading lists for prospective MBAs.

Clinical Professor of Economics
What exactly is a clinical professor of economics? Does he work at a clinic where people bring in their ailing business plans and he helps treat them?

Congratulations Dale! I’ve read your book and it really is a great book. I’ve recommended it before and I’m glad to see that others are recommending it too. Best of luck to you!

How DARE you bloggers be... published. Even worst, being recommended... by a UChicago prof... It ruins the MSM narrative!

Tim Lambert is a computer scientist; who happens to write about DDT. Should I sneer at everything you write about taxes, Dale, since you’re not an economist?
It seems to me that being recognized in this manner means that Brian’s complaint no longer has merit even in his mind (it certainly didn’t in mine.)

Dale, I went to Amazon and clicked the "by Dale Franks" link. Am I to assume that you followed up "Slackernomics" with

Max the Muddy Puppy (Puppy Friends) and Diesel Fundamentals and Service (4th Edition)

Seriouly, I am looking forward to reading it.

You may assume anything you’d like, as long as you buy a copy of Slackernomics.

Just picking a nit, but;

"Perverts need vaseline,"

is not entirely accurate; many of us don’t. And some others have gone to a non-petroleum based product for environmental reasons. A better formulation would have been "Most perverts need a good lubricant". Perhaps you can correct this in the next edition.

Brevity is the soul of wit, my friend.

I refer you to Jessica Boulanger.

Are you implying that I am soulless, or witless?

To the extent that you can’t figure it out, I would say the answer becomes increasingly obvious :-)
