Wow ... some honeymoon
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, January 31, 2007

Sean, at myelectionanalysis points out that Jim Webb, freshman Democrat Senator from VA, already has a negative rating within the state:
So sayeth SurveyUSA. 42% approval, 47% disapproval. Approval ratings are below 50% in all geographic areas of the state, 45%-44% approval among independents. This stands in stark contrast to other members of Webb’s freshman class, all of whom are still basking in the afterglow of their recent election. For example, Freshman Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota sports a 56%-30% net approval rating. Sherrod Brown — who recently defeated Republican Mike DeWine in Ohio has a 47%-32% positive approval rating. And while these states are probably “bluer” than Virginia, Freshman Claire McCaskill — who narrowly defeated Jim Talent in red Missouri — has a 50%-40% positive approval.

Turns out dissing the President — even an unpopular one — isn’t the best way to popularity in a state like Virginia, where Republicans still outnumber Democrats (MSM spin to the contrary). And mind you, this is SurveyUSA’s poll of adults, which routinely skews Democrat in its results.
As one commenter to the post points out, "that’s 5 points lower than Allen’s approval [rating] ever was in the final 20 months he was in there."

Well done, Mr. Webb.

Yeah, but what do all the folks not named Virgil and Cletus have to say about the Honorable Mr Webb’s performance?

Oh right, they were going to actually let him do his job for more than a week before deciding. I keep forgetting that we’re dealing with the non-thinking crowd here at q&a.

Probably the same thing they have to say about George Bush’s performance.

My guess is, though, you’d take that to the bank and tout them as quite good thinkers in that case.

The poll is about job performance to day and apparently Mr. Webb has not been impressive to those with the vote.

LOL!

Lord you can’t even get the name right. You are certainly well named.

I’m sure Webb is worried. He only has 6 years to turn those numbers around.

No doubt. Simply pointing out the less than auspicious start for Mr. Webb. Let’s see if he figures it out.

Heh. Way to endear yourself to America, Yahoo.
Tell them they’re all too stupid to see your brilliance, and that of those liberals you select. I’ll bet you can’t understand why that would be a problem.

He doesn’t have to be popular for another 5 years and some months.

Webb said that he had never met a woman he "would trust to provide . . . combat leadership."

Webbs first public political fight as a senator is with Ms Rice?? Doesn’t trust women in "combat leadership" or all leadership??

You can take the dog out of the pound but you can’t take the pound out of the dog.

I thought you were the guy who thought that our leaders should do whats right instead of doing what the polls say they should be doing. Should Bush quit what he is doing because he is polling worse than OJ Simpson? It seems like you have two standards.

... and

Surveyanalysis uses robot phone callers to collect their data. Who do you think responds to robot callers asking you to hit 1 if you belive this and 2 if you believe that? It is possible that Webb supporters are more likely to be able to use caller id, or that Allen supporters are more likely to take the time to answer a political poll about an office that isn’t open until 2012.

Lets call this what it is.

SurveyUSA and Rasmussen are both robo-pollsters, and have both been among the most accurate two or three outfits in the past 3 election cycles. I think the dispute over whether robo-polls skew the results is o-v-e-r.

WOW … SOME HONEYMOON
You do enjoy poking fun at Democrats, don’t you?

And with the President’s numbers consistently near freezing, I look forward to you post laughing at his dismal numbers.

But what is that saying about those chances having some correlation with the temperature in Hell?

And now back to channel 13’s Eyewitness News with your host… Mephistopheles in the Morning

"And we’re back Devils and Demons.
Now we’re going to turn to Zul in ze Morning with Traffic and Weather. Zul?

Good Morning, good morning…
Well it looks like it’s going to be another scorcher. With the lower plains having a 30% chance of raining fire and brimstone. And the flood warning along the Styx will remain until Doomsday.
And turning to traffic, it looks like the ninth plane corridor will again be congested with partisan snark and bickering. And watch for the deconstruction along the Purgatory Parkway. It’s going to be yet another long commute to downtown Hades.

And now, back to Mephistopheles in the Morning."

Pogue,

You are unfair my friend. McQ has discussed Bush’s lack of popularity, he just doesn’t find it funny.

More importantly, at this point everybody knows Bush is unpopular. Webb’s ability to alienate voters so quickly is both funny (given his populist ranting) and previously unknown to us. I think you would appreciate this under-covered nugget.

Cheers

I’m laughing now ... see?

Tropical at the moment. However I’m actually in Knoxville at the moment and they’re expecting sleet and snow tonight. Global warming, you know.

Webb is just one of the many really lousy candidates who beat good Republican candidates this past election. I mean, George Allen is so vastly superior to Jim Webb in every single way, it’s not even funny. The same could be said about several other races around the country, but in Virginia was far more pronounced.

I note Pogue ignores that the Democrats are polling lower than Bush.... A point Pogue apprently missed, or hopes the rest of us missed.

If you think spoiled frat boys are better politcians than well educated decorated veterans then yes he is superior.

With republicans like this, its hard to see how the party has much to offer.
