The McCain Channel?
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Ok, probably not "Must See" TV, but, methinks, a smart way to campaign and raise visibility:
Veoh Networks, an Internet Television broadcaster and Senator John McCain have teamed to launch the Senator John McCain Channel. The channel will feature a video diary from the campaign trail, including speeches, tour stops and messages to his supporters.

The channel will also have videos detailing the Senator’s position on issues ranging from government spending to the war in Iraq, along with a biographical look at the Senator. The McCain campaign plans to upload full speeches and videos to the channel that will be in DVD-quality.

Political junkies and supporters of the Senator can subscribe to the latest videos from the McCain campaign trail. With the video subscription users will be able watch video on their computers or television using the Veoh Player. They also have the option of transferring their videos to their iPods for additional viewing.
On the potential downside, a video record of what McCain (or any candidate) says which will be difficult to deny or spin.

I certainly am a political junkie, but I doubt that I'll be subscribing.

With the early start to this presidential election cycle I am wondering about one thing though: overexposure. How long will it take, given the time-frame of this run, will it take for voters to get very tired of the present candidates and begin tuning it all out (if they've tuned it in to begin with)? Newt Gingrich is talking about getting into this in September, and his stated strategy is to do so then because he will be a fresh face. I don't think he has the chance of the proverbial snowball in Hades, but I think his strategy may have some merit.

I’m already on record as saying Hillary made a mistake with her video "conversations", and I think this is just as big a mistake. Neither of them come across on video as warm or appealing, and both are known to let their imperious side come through.

This kind of thing might make sense for a Mitt Romney, who seems to have a better video presence. But not McCain.

Newt’s face will never be fresh, literally or metaphorically.

LOL!

You know, Aldo, I can’t take issue with that point ... literally or metaphorically. ;)

True they won’t be able to deny things they said, and they’ll have a lot more trouble spinning it, but...

They will have a good record of what they said and that will help then correct spin that the news media or rival candidates put on their words.

True. And if archived properly, easily searched and found. We need to remember though that this is the candidates video, so it is unlikely that embarrassing or potentially damaging things would make the cut.

YouTube will have to provide those ;)
