Delusions of Adequacy
Posted by: Dale Franks on Sunday, March 04, 2007

So, Ann Coulter, speaking at CPAC, let go an anti-gay slur about John Edwards. Obviously, I condemn the publicity whore's comments in the strongest terms, &c, &c.

Still, the truly amusing thing about this episode is the Edwards' campaign's response.
Mr. Edwards’s aides responded with an e-mail message that attacked Ms. Coulter and urged supporters to donate to Mr. Edwards’s campaign. "John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power," said his campaign manager, David E. Bonior.
Heh. Yeah. Sure he does. The aura of danger that surrounds John Edwards is palpable.

Edwards if nothing else is a billionaire joke. Only the creator of the internet is afraid of him and his massive carbon footprint!

I’m surprised at how thin Edwards’ skin is.

The Dem’s have called Bush "Hitler," "Evil," and "Satan," and he hasn’t even flinched.

But when a know firebrand, Anne "Hatchet" Coulter, calls 2004’s loser a bad name and the entire "Establishment" media and his wife, come out swinging.

Good god! Talk about a soft-shelled crab.

The same applies to Hillary as well.

Chasing the video from a news site a few minutes ago landed me on the Edwards campaign site, where outraged libs are invited to contribute "Coulter cash" to fight "the politics of bigotry" espoused by "Republican mouthpiece" you know who. Given all the to-do, their goal of $100,000 in a week seems kind of modest. Bet they get it.

The most notable thing to me about the video of Coulter’s comment is the gasping and clearly scandalized response she draws instantly from the audience. A couple of beats go by before tentative applause and then a couple of zealot’s whistles come forth.

Why oh why Coulter wanted to hand this opportunity to Edwards is anyone’s guess. What made it particularly stupid was that he’d just taken - and cleanly survived - such a well-deserved drubbing for hiring that manhating religious bigot. So she rushes to give him the chance to play victim. Publicity, publicity, publicity.

Hmmmm. Maybe this whole thing is part of a grand scheme to crush Hillary under an Edwards juggernaut. If so, much work remains to be done as he still seems quite the lightweight. Not in the loafers or anything, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, nice work Ann, assuming you’re working for the Edwards campaign.

Speaking of Hitler, I think this is funny:
”[Gore] The Eco-Messiah sternly talks up the old Nazi comparisons: What we’re facing is an "ecological Holocaust, and "the evidence of an ecological Kristallnacht is as clear as the sound of glass shattering in Berlin." That 221,000 kilowatt-hours [that Gore’s mansion uses] might suggest that, if this is the ecological Holocaust, Gore’s pad is Auschwitz. But, as his spokesperson would no doubt argue, when you’re faced with ecological Holocausts and ecological Kristallnachts, sometimes the only way to bring it to an end is with an ecological Hiroshima. The Gore electric bill is the eco-atom bomb: You have to light up the world in order to save it.”
And despite the Gore spokeperson’s comments and all of the others I have read, this is one scalping that is eminently deserved IMHO. Unlike many scalpings, there is a there, there; here. Or words to that effect.

Edwards campaign was faltering. His foray into internet politics got him nothing but a black eye. His experience is limited to one single term in the Senate for which he had less than a mediocre performance. His running as the VP to Kerry saved him from the embarrassement of losing in the re-election campaign for his Senate seat. Apologies or not, his disclaimer for his Iraq vote is not holding water even among the far left. Even they know his membership on the Senate Intelligence Committee makes his claim of being bamboozled on the road to war hard to swallow. He tries so hard to be the clean-cut kid on the block but his 28,000 square foot mansion and ambulance chasing past belies all that.

Ann Coulter has done what she could to keep this bufoon in the race. And for good reason. The more Democrats remain in the race, the nastier it is going to get. She wants to keep the fur flying! It makes for more headlines and that translates into money and attention. And if saying out loud what a lot of people may be thinking keeps Edwards gasping for a little air a little while longer - so much the better.

You can say a lot about Coulter and her tactics. She is crass and does not hesitate to cross the line or go way over the top. But nothing she does is "spur of the moment" regardless of how it may appear. Tactically, she is crude. Strategically, she is brilliant!

Sure. Edwards is not gay, but he could still be the first gay President in the same way that Bill Clinton was the first black President.

I’m lost on this one. Prior to the Coulter remark, all I knew about issues of Edwards’ manhood were the video of the hair-combing and the "Breck Girl" references (which, if I am not mistaken were "Breck Boy" comments). Vanity, not sexuality. And, yes, I would probably not pick him for my team to go to the North Pole. But I wouldn’t pick Guiliani, either, and there is no talk of... no, wait...
And I might pick Hillary; so adaptable, you know. But never mind about the North Pole. Edwards’ "gravitas" has, to my knowledge, not been questioned to this extent before. Or I missed it. So many candidates and so little time.

The real problem here is that Coulter confuses a particular manner of speaking used by some Southerners with a similar manner often spoken by some homosexuals.
This doesn’t make Southerners any more homosexual, than it makes homosexuals Southern.

A good example of this manner is found in the movie "Cool Hand Luke" .. look for the line .. "what we have here is a failure to communicate".

You mean his campaign to arrange for Homophobic Offsets?

I have as much chance of being elected President as Edwards. He is a lighweight of monumental preportions. Edwards makes Dan Quale look like a Statesman.

LOL! Oh God, that is wicked! But really sort of motivating what with the ambulance and sense of urgency and all. Given that that getting it from the great beyond approach netted so many smackaroos the first time around, who knows but what he might just borrow the graphic for his Coulter cash page?
I have as much chance of being elected President as Edwards.
Me too. You have to wonder, what on earth is he doing even campaigning. And when is everyone going to start giving him the attention he deserves, which is none? He’s a total nonentity, but with limelight flashing all over him every couple of days. What gives?

I wonder that too. The conventional wisdom among the mainstream media is that the Republicans are having trouble finding strong candidates. I can’t say I’m overly impressed with any of the front rank GOP candidates right now, but just look at the Democrats!

- A one-term senator whose most famous accomplishment is having a nice hairstyle and building a 38,000 sq.ft. mansion while blathering about "Two Americas"

- A not-even-finished-one-term senator whose main accomplishment is that he hasn’t done anything important enough to criticize, and who’s main qualification appears to be that he’s a minority candidate

- A woman who came to power via her impeached husband and has some of the highest negatives ever seen in a major presidential candidate

I mean, is this desperation or what?

And the mind-numbing truth is that if one of them is nominated, as seems genuinely likely even if stupefying, he or she will be showered with gazillions of dollars in campaign funding and unquestionably garner tens of millions of votes. Even in a worst-case scenario.

Is Edwards afraid he’ll get lost in his new house? That’s the only danger he’s in.
