And this one was one of the earlier scientists who warned against the effects of burning fossil fuels:
Claude Allegre, one of France's leading socialists and among her most celebrated scientists, was among the first to sound the alarm about the dangers of global warming.
"By burning fossil fuels, man increased the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which, for example, has raised the global mean temperature by half a degree in the last century," Dr. Allegre, a renowned geochemist, wrote 20 years ago in Cles pour la geologie.." Fifteen years ago, Dr. Allegre was among the 1500 prominent scientists who signed "World Scientists' Warning to Humanity," a highly publicized letter stressing that global warming's "potential risks are very great" and demanding a new caring ethic that recognizes the globe's fragility in order to stave off "spirals of environmental decline, poverty, and unrest, leading to social, economic and environmental collapse."
That was then. Now he's sounding quite a bit more skeptical:
With a wealth of data now in, Dr. Allegre has recanted his views. To his surprise, the many climate models and studies failed dismally in establishing a man-made cause of catastrophic global warming. Meanwhile, increasing evidence indicates that most of the warming comes of natural phenomena. Dr. Allegre now sees global warming as over-hyped and an environmental concern of second rank.
So he rejects the consensus and is finding much of what is being said today to be hyperbole. In terms children will understand, it is "Chicken Little Science".
Calling the arguments of those who see catastrophe in climate change "simplistic and obscuring the true dangers," Dr. Allegre especially despairs at "the greenhouse-gas fanatics whose proclamations consist in denouncing man's role on the climate without doing anything about it except organizing conferences and preparing protocols that become dead letters." The world would be better off, Dr. Allegre believes, if these "denouncers" became less political and more practical, by proposing practical solutions to head off the dangers they see, such as developing technologies to sequester C02. His dream, he says, is to see "ecology become the engine of economic development and not an artificial obstacle that creates fear."
Now that is the true "inconvenient truth" about the whole culture that has become "Global Warming" TM. Less political and more practical? Why that would mean actually doing real science and then using the findings to propose real solutions that, as Allegre suggests, might sequester CO2 (and not just man-made).
His last line is very important. What is being talked about now among the consensus "Global Warming"TM crowd aren't practical solutions which will address the problem, as its proponents see it, while maintaining or even enhancing economic development, but are, instead, economy killing solutions.
Even if we agreed that the problem required some sort of solution such as Allegre suggests, draconian measures which stunt or kill economic growth are and always will be non-starters. Once the "Global Warming"TM crowd realizes this, stops the hype and gloom-and-doom rhetoric and begins to present practical and affordable methods to address their concerns, they may be taken more seriously by we heretics.

See, this is an attitude people can get on board with. Because under this model, people won’t have to do without, as they would under the current model (well, all except ALGORE of course). It’s as close to a win-win scenario as you could envision. Unless of course, your motives for advancing climate change have more to do with grabbing power and money, or advancing your controlling political agenda than helping Gaia. In that case, yeah, you would be pretty bummed over this sort of thing
It’s just Y2K, re polished, made more dangerous. It’s the latest vogue. Now if the Christians were running around yelling apocalypse, and end-times, why, that’d just be a collection of superstitious hogwash.
Global Warming! Our Motto? "Latest exciting over-hyped crisis! It’s not just for programmers any more!" But this is better! It’s hurricanes, rising oceans, tornadees, famine, plague, extinct snail darters, cute cuddly polar bear carcases left in the wake of the trollish hunters aboard the Exxon Valdez. Something for every easily led, fearful person on the globe! Laid at the doorstep of Lady Liberty.
Our position? We have consensus. We’ve made our models, we’ve plugged in the data, we’ve tailored it and we’ve gotten the results showing there’s a storm a comin and man is a causin it brothers and sisters! We may have left out a few details, and overlooked some findings, and it might be faked, but it’s accurate!
With the potential for massive policy changes, massive legal changes, industry changes, why, this is something the socially conscious can really cash in on and finally force those SUV drivin, NASCAR racin, Barbecue using, Air Conditioning hoggin Red State SOBs to adhere to the proper social agenda at the same time.
And, as Dr Erb will tell you, from an international perspective, America can atone for it’s many many industrialist, capitalist, imperialist sins and take it’s proper place as a has-been super power knuckling under to the authority invested in the UN by petty tin-pot dictators, human rights violating human rights commission members and socialist European bureaucrats who know what’s best for us.
