Posted by: McQ on Tuesday, March 06, 2007 Let's accept, arguendo (and for the purposes of this post), that the "Global Warming"TM crowd is right and it is all man's fault for the amount of CO2 going into the atmosphere and warming us up. And lets propose that we, the US and Europe decide we must "do our duty" and drastically cut back on CO2 emissions. What good would it do in reality? Well probably not much. It would certainly cause a great deal of economic hardship, but unless everyone everywhere were involved in the same sort of effort, would it in fact be that effective in stopping CO2 emissions? The answer is no. And the reason is China, who has already said it has no interest in such efforts. In fact Chinese officialdom has studiously ignored the subject. It rates only faint mention in the government media organs and there is simply no identifiable movement afoot which addresses this possible crisis. So how much does (or will) China be contributing to such emissions? A lot. And pictures are worth a thousand words in this particular instance (from the San Francisco Chronicle). First the total increase in emissions from China over the last 5 years compared to that of the "West":
What's the answer "Global Warming"TM crowd? What's your plan on getting China (and India) to go along with whatever plan you think is necessary to halt or reverse warming? Because, as is obvious, unless you can, it appears the efforts of other countries to do so may be a wasted effort. |
