Remember this quote?
Posted by: McQ on Friday, March 09, 2007

A blast from the very recent past:
“The demon has begun to collapse and to search for an escape. … Today, we are dictating our orders upon you. So, you should accept those gladly and submissively before you regret it. We order you to withdraw your forces immediately, provided that the withdrawal is conducted via personnel carriers and passenger airplanes that would transport your soldiers with their own personal weapons only. You should not withdraw any of your heavy weapons and gear. You should also hand over all the military bases to the mujahideen of the Islamic State and complete your withdrawal in a period that does not exceed one month. For our part, we will allow you to withdraw without being hurt by roadside bombs or others.”
That was Abu-Umar Al-Baghdadi, head of the Islamic State Of Iraq (a terrorist organization linked to al Qaeda in Iraq) and Mujahedeen Shura Council, in December of last year.

Today he is known as "Prisoner Al-Baghdadi" having managed to get himself captured by Iraqi forces.

Heh ...

As if we need more proof of quagmire and defeat in Iraq...this is all a part of the crafty Iraqi Master Plan, that involves Mookie fleeing the country to mobilize support and this guy leading a giant prison rebellion from inside the Belly of the Beast.

Critics of this war for the last 4 years having been pointing out that this was almost the inevitable consequence of our Illegal, Immoral, Fattening Aggression against the State of Iraq.

More FOOL I, how could I have failed to note the comedic gold that is this name?

On a serious note, his family name, is the same tribal name as the Speaker of the Parliament...I realize that we all have black sheep cousins, heck I AM the black sheep cousin in my family, but that name implies a connection with some fairly senior folks in the Iarqi government. It’s like the name "al-Tikriti" a lOT of folks with that name ran Iraq under Saddam... clan and family ties could make this a lot of fun and involve a degree of ’splainin’ from some officials.

It’s a trap. He’s lying in wait. Getting captured is just part of his plan.

I had to re-read that article; for a second I thought this was the Democrat’s strategy for Iraq.

I hurriedly phoned the Dennis Kucinich campaign office to make sure Prisoner Baghdadi is being afforded all the rights of Habeas Corpus and was Mirandized before he talks. Thank heavens for guys like Mr. Kucinich to protect these poor Iranian defectors (victims of extraordinary RENDITION?) from us stupid Gringos...

The Abu Omar al-Bagdadi Saga at the Fourth Rail

The Leader of al-Qaeda’s Islamic State in Iraq has not been captured. Again.

For the third time this week, Abu Omar al-Bagdadi, the leader of al-Qaeda’s political front organization the Islamic State of Iraq, was reported captured by the Iraqi Interior Ministry. And for the third time this week, Baghdadi’s capture turned out to be untrue. On March 4th, Baghdadi was reportedly captured in Duluiya in Salahadin province. Baghdadi was then reported to have been captured in the Dora neighborhood Baghdad on March 5th. Yesterday, Baghdadi was reported to have been captured in Abu Ghraib, just west of Baghdad.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry has now denied the latest claim, however a senior al-Qaeda leader was arrested during a raid in Abu Ghraib. "After preliminary investigations, it was proven that the arrested al-Qaida person is not Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, but, in fact, another important al-Qaida official," said Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Mousawi, the Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman. "Interrogations and investigations are still under way to get more information." The March 5th raid in Duluiya is said to have netted Abdullah Latif al-Jaburi - aka Abu Abdullah - the second in command of the Islamic State in Iraq. Announcements on the capture of death of senior al-Qaeda and insurgent leaders should be taken with a healthy does of skepticism.

Baghdadi’s identity is still in question.
