The Hagia Sophia
Posted by: Dale Franks on Wednesday, March 14, 2007

The Washington Post has a presentation on candidates for the newest Seven Wonders of the world. It's nice and all, I guess, but you gotta wonder how this got through all those famed layers of editors on frame 18:
The sun sets over Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, a church that was first built in 537 B.C. as a Mosque when the city fell to the Ottomans. When Turkish President Kemal Ataturk turned it into a museum in 1935, Christian mosaics covered up by the Muslims were revealed.

I really don't even have the time to recount all the errors that pop up in just the first sentence.

But, feel free to append your own errata slip.

A Church that was built 500+ years B.C.? But as a Mosque? Which would have been, what, about 1000 years before that religion was founded?

And the MSM calls bloggers stupid?

Well, essentially everything in the description is incorrect, but that is cheating since I already looked at this at my place.

What is impressive is all the errors on the other 20+ photo’s descriptions. Made more impressive still because the descriptions were from a variety of sources. It is as if they sought out factually suspect captions. They didn’t find just one incompetent, they found a herd of them.

Oh you’ve got to be kidding! Justinian’s Basilica of Hagia Sophia is only one of the most famous and given the dome groundbreaking Christian churches in the world! Back to school for these jokers...

It is even worse than it seems. Journalists who never took basic physics or chemistry often report on science. Reporters who never had Econ 101 regularly report on fiscal matters. Most in that profession don’t know their ass from a Rueters wire.

It’s a good thing I don’t rely on blogs for my information but rely on reputable MSM sources, the ones with the highly trained reporters and the layers of editors and fact checkers......

In their favour I believe no words were mis-spelled and the grammar and syntax is all correct. We start with baby steps.

It’s just proof that Christians were persecuting Muslims even before the Muslims existed.

And Jews, Gays, Lesbians, the Transgendered, and Womyn, don’t forget those groups either...We were oppressing them EVEN BEFORE THERE WAS CHRISTIANITY (537 B.C.). We Christo-Fascists are tricksy and evillllllllll....

They should all align with Islamic militants against the represive American Christian capitalists—the true evil of this world.
