MSNBC will Host Republican Presidential debate
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, April 18, 2007

And not a hint of whining or claiming MSNBC is biased or threatening to pull out:
Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC's "Hardball," will moderate the May 3 GOP presidential debate at the Reagan Library, officials announced Tuesday.

The same evening, Matthews will air a "Hardball" program from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum with analysis of the debate, the first debate of its kind in Ventura County.

"Debates put presidential candidates on the same stage. That's the way voters like to see them, squaring off, testing their wits, competing with ideas," Matthews said in a news release. "It's an honor to be moderating the first Republican debate."

The 10 candidates who have confirmed they will attend are Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, California Rep. Duncan Hunter, former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado and Tommy Thompson, former Wisconsin governor and secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush.
Guess the rightosphere didn't make a big enough stink about the Olby channel or Chris Matthews to have the Reps pull out.

What's that? What did you say? There was no stink? There was no demand that the Reps duck the MSNBC debate or claims of bias?

They feel that they can handle it?

Huh ... you don't say?

Perhaps because MSNBC doesn’t regularly smear and attack Republican candidates? I mean, Christ, Matthews has all but coronated Giuliani and McCain king while having his heart go aflutter for Romney.

You’ll find no such praise for Democratic candidates on Fox.

God, Oliver Willis from smear central accusing others. Wow, did the irony of that post hit an alltime high or what.

Oliver is kidding right? I mean the stuff he highlighted is from opinion shows. Has he EVER listened/watched Olberman? I mean, the guy goes off each night on how W is a dictator/thug/evil/fill in disparaging term here....

I LOVE the smell of irony in the morning... it smells like... VICTORY ;-)

To be fair, the folks on FOX don’t go to the trouble of actually handing Democrats checks ON CAMERA.

It will be interesting to see if this May 3 date has any influence on the ever-more-likely-each-day Fred Thompson declaration.

Run, Fred, run.

Chis Mathews supported George Bush in the last election. MSNBC is not being run by the political consultant Rodger Ailes. Its not the party organ that Fox news is, but lets not get delutional and confuse that with being Liberal.

Liberalism is in the eye of the beholder. Saying MSNBC is not Liberal, says more about the politics of the commentator, than the politics of the network.

No he didn’t. Where do you get this stuff?

Please Please Please get informed about Ron Paul. I am proud to say that he has been my district representative for as long as I can rememer and has done an excellent job! All the neo-liberal mindwashed pseudohippies out there need to open their eyes. I read one post on alternet or rawstory from some lady going off about him being "pro-life." It is also important to remember that he is against government interference in individual liberties (including medical privacy). I fear that because he is the only candidate with true perspective on our current socio/politico/economic environment he will be marginalized by "both sides." Fortunately most people aren’t on a side, but rather are intelligent beings capable of seperating fact from crap when presented with credible information from PRIMARY sources.

Get informed, and help to inform others. Register republican and vote in their primary. In some states you can even participate in party primaries regardless of party affiliation. As the one-eyed, three-legged dog in the race they need all the advantages they can get (here advantages=registered voters).

As a voter you have the opportunity to influence the issues discussed and the manner in which the debates are framed by simply siding with a strong candidate in a weak party. Voting for/against Hillary or Obama in the democractic primary will have ZERO affect on the direction in which this election is moving.

However, all three "major" candidates in the republican race are lame ducks that will not manage to get a majority of anything, not even in their own party (check the polls). If Americans out there will remove the network blinders and smoke screens, abandon the false dichotomy of left/right - rep/dem, we might actually be able to make a strong enough statement to our corporate overlords that will change indelibly the direction of our once proud nation.

We want our country back!!!

I agree with both R.H. and Joe. Until i started reading about Ron Paul, i didn’t know about Fractional Reserve Banking, or the attacks on the 2nd amendment, or the neo-conservative fear mongering(in it’s truest form). He’s an intelligent, WELL educated and experienced person, with a heart that goes out to everyone, and he just happens to be a politician, so vote for him so he can stand up for YOUR rights and liberties. I find the biggest problem for the majority of voters is understanding what their rights are, and what LIBERTY actually means! Heck, you could spend an hour watching "Ron Paul YouTube" videos and you would be well on your way to understanding what is needed.

Please, do some homework up until the election booths are open, and then you can go back to not being whole-heartedly into politics....but try to educate yourselves so that we elect the right person to help this country give us back a livable wage, a debt-free monetary system, ACTUAL secure borders, and the maturity and foresight to get out of IRAQ and leave everyone else alone.

This is TOO IMPORTANT to slack off and not care about it. EVERY SINGLE LIFE IS GOING TO BE AFFECTED BY THIS ELECTION...YES YOU. Take the time....please.

Let me get this straight..... more than 2/3 of the citizens of this country want to bring our men and women home from Iraq. So, why does the squinty-eyed one and his rogue side-kick Dickie tell us to suck raw eggs on that issue? Here is one question that I hope to insert into the questions for the GOP Prez debate scheduled at the Reagan Library next week:

To all the candidates and particularly to the current idiot-in-charge who now support the continued killing in Iraq: Please identify the specific event that must occur before any of you can claim that the War on Terror has been won. Note: the "War on Terror" used so effectivly as a tool to carry out the Imperialist doctrine of the Bush/Cheney cartel implies that terrorist activities must stop throuthout the world in order to declare that the "War on Terror" has been won. Do any of you think that that is remotely possible? Will Bush give us his "Mission Accomplished" thing again by vetoing the funding for the war if it’s tied to a troop pullout date? The Viet Nam history lesson is hitting all the Neocons in the ass. Can’t you guys learn? Do we need to kill another 48,000 in this illegal war to make your point as arm chair generals playing with the lives of our best like they were Nintendo characters? Nam was a no-win situation. This illegal war is also a no-win situation.

There is only one candidate that will save America. RON PAUL

I would have always considered myself a constitutionalist until I started doing more research on Dr. Paul. This man really does have the honesty and credibility to repair much of the damage that is being done to America and our constitution. I for one will be voting for the one man who actually does stand for honest politics, Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is the man. He was the only one that was not a literal talking head spouting the same old tired party-line BS. I love his passion.
