Dems may play more games with Iraq
Posted by: McQ on Thursday, May 03, 2007

Don't want troops in Iraq?

DEFUND THE WAR NOW!

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, on the Senate floor just a few minutes ago, proposed Oct. 11, 2007 as the “expiration date” for the Iraq war.

“It is time to sunset the authorization for the war in Iraq,” she said. “If the president will not bring himself to accept reality, it is time for Congress to bring reality to him.”

A measure by Mrs. Clinton and Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia would end Congress’s use of force authorization five years to the day after the original use of force legislation took effect in 2002.

“I urge my colleagues to join Senator Byrd and me in supporting this effort to require a new authorization resolution for these new times,” she said.
They need to grow a pair and quit playing games. Hmmm ... seems odd to be telling Hillary to grow a pair, doesn't it?

Pelosi and Byrd should run for President of France. That country is used to surrendering.

Notice the silence of the liberals in this space. You see this is a time when the Narrative doesn’t tell them which way to jump. The NYT has not yet told them what they think. They don’t want to jump the wrong way and have to look silly and change their tune to get in step with the Narrative when the Times tells them how this is playing. They sense a sea change and are therefore reluctant to simply reemphasize their past positions - the new turn in the Narrative may leave them high and dry with yesterday’s facts. Don’t worry, the Times is working on it, I’m sure, and soon the lefties will be back on firm ground.

She needs more donations from core supporting Lefties, this rhetoric gives them thrills. Bush will still be in office in Oct, will still veto - it is only rhetoric.

What is the feminine equivalent?
I’ll skip right over the obvious jokes about femininity and hillary, and just say that of the two, Hillary’s the one more likely to have a set than Billy-boy...

Oliver-

Please answer this:

What course of action is preferable to you:

1) Immediate defunding of the war with large negative political consequences for the Dems.

2) Futile time-wasting trying to get a troop withdrawl date bill past the President, allowing the Dems to politically milk the situation.

3) Other machinations (akin to "slow bleed") that would possibly end the war sometime down the road, or at least make it harder on Bush to continue, with modest negative political consequences to the Dems.

Please note that you cannot choose #4 (getting Bush to sign a time-set drawdown bill, because it is not going to happen)

"What is the feminine equivalent?"
"Who is this mysterious "Narrative"?"
Seems to be a lot of confusion out there today. Inquiring minds want to know and they come to QandO for real answers:

I don’t know how "feminine" it is, but in my neck of the woods it is a pair of gonads (sex organs) and they are referred to as ovaries. So a female has a pair (anatomically correct) of ovaries if she is assertive about a female issue. If the issue is traditionally a male issue, as in this case, then she has "balls" (yes, I know that is confusing, but then so is a woman who has those mythical "balls", so whatayagonnado?)

As for Mr. Willis’ disingenuous question, I will answer it in language understandable in the Blue Narrative World (where smart liberals believe that they are the only ones in on the joke and the sheeple don’t even realize there is a joke).

The Narrative is simply the truth, not all truth, just that portion that the Right is intent on denying for their evil political purposes. For example, the Right maintains that President Bush never lied. The Narrative has proven that he did; and repeatedly.
The Right maintains that President Bush appearing in a flight suit to declare the mission accomplished only meant to celebrate victory in Baghdad and gaining control of the country. The Narrative sees beneath this simplistic averral and declares the truth in that it is clear that he thought that that was all there was to the campaign in Iraq and therefore he was completely surprised that there was more to be done.
Since the Narrative is an oral religion, to my knowledge there is no official writing that contains all of its wisdom. One can track it, however, simply by noting the issues where a reasonable number of netroots posters and commenters howl, gesticulate and declaim that the rightwingnoisemachine has distorted "Reality" in discussing an issue. The Narrative is the sum of all of these areas of rightwingnoisemachine distortions.

The concept of the Narrative was developed in liberal think tanks when it was realized that lazy urban liberals never click on links or read outside of liberal sources and form their political beliefs from the statements of recognized liberal authority figures on current issues with no reference to contradictory sources that are not safely in the liberal cocoon. Thus, if these authority figures can agree to endorse a statement, it becomes literally real to the sheeple who rely on these authority figures and they will vote accordingly and completely disregard any information that contradicts their gurus (the truth, if you will). A powerful political force is born.
A required corollary is that the truth is less important than gaining political power.

She’s simply straddling the issue. Calling for a new war authorization now leaves her wiggle room later. If polls go pro-war for whatever reason, she can continue to be the most hawkish democratic candidate. If polls go all ANSWER, she can toot her horn on having been the driving force behind sunsetting the military authorization.

Arcs,

Please, never again! The mental image of Hillary straddling anything is causing me severe mental pain. I’m going to gouge out my mind’s eye with a fork and scrub my brain with steel wool, thankyouverymuch.

While we are on the subject of liberals having little regard for reality or the truth this shocking article showed up this morning. It is not about politics, but has a definite relationship to the behavior of liberals with regard to the truth.

One is tempted to disregard this entire article as being too preposterous. Except that it is apparently based on official Government records. Records which I guarantee will astound you. Intrigued? Read on.
”When the Duke University lacrosse players were accused of raping a black stripper last year, liberals everywhere treated the accusation as fact, because, just as with … Tawana Brawley, the rape charge seemed to the minds of liberals to reflect the true nature of oppressive racial and sexual relations in America.
To see the real truth of the matter, let us take a look at the Department of Justice document Criminal Victimization in the United States, 2005. (Go to the linked document, and under "Victims and Offenders" download the pdf file for 2005.)
In Table 42, entitled "Personal crimes of violence, 2005, percent distribution of single-offender victimizations, based on race of victims, by type of crime and perceived race of offender," we learn that there were 111,590 white victims and 36,620 black victims of rape or sexual assault in 2005. …In the 111,590 cases in which the victim of rape or sexual assault was white, 44.5 percent of the offenders were white, and 33.6 percent of the offenders were black. In the 36,620 cases in which the victim of rape or sexual assault was black, 100 percent of the offenders were black, and 0.0 percent of the offenders were white. The table explains that 0.0 percent means that there were under 10 incidents nationally.
Yup, you read that correctly. ZERO percent! It boggles the mind.
”The table does not gives statistics for Hispanic victims and offenders. But the bottom line on interracial white/black and black/white rape is clear:
”In the United States in 2005, 37,460 white females were sexually assaulted or raped by a black man, while between zero and ten black females were sexually assaulted or raped by a white man. “
According to the Wikipedia article on rape, as many as half of all rape charges nationally are determined by police and prosecutors to be false:
”Linda Fairstein, former head of the New York County District Attorney’s Sex Crimes Unit, noted, "There are about 4,000 reports of rape each year in Manhattan. Of these, about half simply did not happen.... It’s my job to bring justice to the man who has been falsely accused by a woman who has a grudge against him, just as it’s my job to prosecute the real thing."
No wonder there was such absolute belief in the guilt of the Duke students among the leading sectors of liberal America. A drug-addled, half-deranged, promiscuous black stripper accused three young white men of raping her. There are virtually zero rapes of black women by white men in the United States, and half of all rape charges against specific individuals turn out to be false. But in the gnostic, inverted world of liberal demonology, the white students had to be guilty. “
I would like to see a rebuttal by a smart liberal. Yeah, the Wikipedia quote is spin taken from a much larger and less clear-cut section on the sub-issue of false charges, but the rest seems pretty much cut and dried unless the numbers lie.

Are the statistics in this article true? Liberals? Anyone?

Oh, don’t bother to shoot the messenger; I don’t care about the reputation of the site, its authors and backers. The statistics stand on their own, apart from any spin added by the author.

Bob, it’s probably racist that you would even mentioned this.
This isn’t truth, you see, it’s really racism.

Anything that’s uncomfortable to discuss isn’t truth, it’s automatically something else.

We all know that liberals run from uncomfortable truth like a scalded dog, but the point that I meant to raise (and didn’t do very well) is, with all the exhustive reporting that took place in the Duke case, how could a fact like the existence of these statistics fail to be revealed by the MSM? Picture liberal editors red penciling this information from articles written by investigative reporters at the early stages of the Duke case. I’m thinking how such people would administer a "Fairness" Doctrine.

From time to time someone questions me on my intense disgust with and disdain for liberals. This thread is part of my answer. When someone throws a clear light on their nefarious practices they scuttle for the dark like the cockroaches they are.
Oh, they’re brave enough and eloquent - when they can set the agenda and frame the issues to cover for their lack of veracity. When cornered, they come out with something like: "Hey, I want what I think is right; I don’t have to meet with your definition of honor, truth or justice." Heh. Generations before Vietnam and most of the dead of Vietnam died for these values.
Maybe they are obsolete.
You can see what I think of the values the liberals are replacing them with. As I contemplate "What are we fighting for?", a find myself wondering: Which is a worse lifestyle; honorable Sharia or the value system of modern liberals with its emphasis on gaining and retaining political power and PC control of our lives at the expense of freedom, truth and honesty?

I’ll trade them for Sarkozy and Royal on looks alone!

But while I won’t defend the Democrats in how they’ve handled the war, the President hasn’t been any better. The GOP knows that they are leaving Iraq, the President doesn’t use the word "victory" any more, and they just want to find a face saving way out (the surge is meant to create a ’peace with honor’ moment).

If I were asked to appoint a President right now, I think I’d just look to see who has the most integrity. I’d end up choosing someone far more conservative than me, Chuck Hagel.

"They" are leaving Iraq, white man?

"We" are, if anyone is. Perhaps you wish to fight the Civil War over again. Last I looked every American citizen was part of "We"; even *ssh*l*s like yourself. If you are an alien and not a U.S. citizen, I am for terminating your visa and deporting your ass to France.
Mr. Hollis is right. You are scum. Not for your criticisms of President Bush or your crackpot political views. We celibrate that.
By your own keyboard you have separated yourself from the body politic and have declared yourself a fifth columnist. Good riddance.

Methinks thou doth protest too much. No, I don’t identify with any particular country, religion, or collective unit. I see myself as an individual. I could be happy living in Germany, Italy, the US or pretty much any place I could work and be free. If you don’t like that, too bad for you. If you have the Rush album "Power Windows," play the song "Territories." I especially like the line: "Better the pride that resides in a citizen of the world, than the pride that divides when a colorful rag is unfurled."

In my work, teaching, and life I am focused on trying to move us away from the old mentality of collective identifying with a piece of territory and a narrow conception of sovereignty, to a higher form of thinking about humanity. In fact, if I was only concerned with America and American national interest, I’d argue for immediate withdraw from Iraq since it harms our security, does not defend our freedom in any way shape or form, and weakens our country. It is defending us from nothing. The only reason I think that we have to stay engaged at some level (though I’d alter policy completely) is that the life of an Iraqi is just as important to me as a life of an American since territory of birth or nationality is irrelevant to determining the value of human life. Thus the fear of an Iraqi collapse should we leave without some kind of process or alternative in place does cause me to see some merit to arguments against ending the war right away.

Yawn. We stay away from comment threads that we think are so utterly full of the stuff that makes the grass grow, that they appear to be a complete waste of time.
Anytime you want to misrepresent that to further your self-appeasing peace of mind, have a ball.

But that’s not why I came: I came to say I agree with McQ from the far side: Hilary’s idea here is rather unimpressive.
