Fall in line or out of the tent with you Lanny (update)
Posted by: McQ on Friday, May 11, 2007

It should come as no surprise that Atrios had declared Lanny Davis, Democratic operative, "Wanker of the Day" or that Jesus General is in full "open letter" mode over what Davis said concerning the Alberto Gonzales kerfuffle. You see, just as Jonathan Chait pointed out last week, Netroot will barely tolerate dissent which comes from the left, but it will absolutely not tolerate dissent from within which comes from it's right. By that I mean criticism which is to the right of their position. In this case that position is, "thou shalt not criticize the party ... ever". Unity is strength, etc.:
Lanny Davis, who was special counsel to President Clinton, says keeping Gonzales on the job is the president's prerogative.

"It's up to the president to decide whether he wants an attorney general who is effective with Congress. It's not up to Congress to decide," Davis says.

Davis says he used the same argument when Republicans called on Attorney General Janet Reno to resign in the 90s.

"The problem with us Democrats, now that we're in the majority, is we're forgetting the same arguments we used against Republican abuses in the '90s," he says. "We're forgetting about those arguments now that the shoe is on the other foot."
The fact that his point is true and that he is simply warning Democrats of the pitfalls of this sort of behavior is irrelevant. He's broken the cardinal Netroots rule and is now, at least until he redeems himself, a persona non grata in the Netroots world.

UPDATE: Jesus' General's brilliant (cough, cough) response.

Democratic centralism is the name given to the principles of internal organization used by Leninist political parties, and the term is sometimes used as a synonym for any Leninist policy inside a political party. The democratic aspect of this organizational method describes the freedom of members of the political party to discuss and debate matters of policy and direction, but once the decision of the party is made by majority vote, all members are expected to uphold that decision.

From wikipedia.

You are aware of the right blog term (also in use elsewhere): RINO?

And does it not occur that there might be DINOs?

And if there are Mr. Davis is either one or a very fine role model of a DINO.

And DINOs are extinct. And so they should be.

Mr. Davis is merely a Republican leaning troll.

Wonder who he voted for in 04 (the 4 letter guy or the 5 letter guy)?

"thou shalt not criticize the party ... ever".

How about:"thou shalt not criticize the party....constantly"?

And here I thought that was a good thing, sorta like what is described as your hero Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment: "Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican."

To sum up your position: If a Democrat does it, it is bad. If a Republican does it, it is good. Makes things kind of easy, you don’t have to think.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that Abu Gonzales is actually at fault here. Is he being hounded for partisan, political purposes like Reno was? Yes, she could have handled Waco better, but that’s not necessarily a firing offense. Subverting the Constitution at every possible turn and overseeing the politicization of the DOJ, however, as Gonzales has done, seems a bit more troubling in a "free" society.

So Davis, STFU.

*snort* Talk about understatement.
How many people has Gonzales killed?

None. Same as Reno. Welcome to reality.

Sounds exactly like Ronald Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment, don’t it?

Gee, I hope the Demon-crats haven’t
finally learned from our beloved GOP
the trick of enforcing the party message!

We patriotic Americans
hang on to power because we know we
must not criticize our Great Leader -
even if he did turn the largest surplus
ever into the largest deficit ever
in three short year - even if he did
manage to turn victory against the
taliban into defeat everywhere -
even if the stock market is only now
barely above what it was 7 years ago -
even if his every checkable statement turns
out to be false - even if the "worst of
the worst" in Guantanamo turn out to be mostly
a bunch of ragtag goatherds who we then release
in the dark of night after years of holding
them incommunicado. Ooops, I don’t know how to
link to the wikipedia entry for incommunicado.

Actually you did well enough yourself to demonstrate the point, as in "you’ve been incommunicado from reality for years", huh?

That’s right McQ. The definition of
"incommunicado for reality for years"
is: Anyone who does not
utter the mantra 9/11 every 10 seconds
and doesn’t think it justifies all our
Great Leader does.

Your typically fact-free and logic-free
response to my comment is the only new
thing I see here in the last 12 hours,
so it’s bye for now, nice meeting you.
