I really do not like this use of the word Czar, in the first place Why the Russian ? Our culture is derived from England which was influenced by Rome, so why not just call it the War, or Drug, or whatever Ceasar, Or perhaps we could throw a bone to our German allies and call it the Kaiser. Or if we have to go Russian why not the more genteel sounding Tsar? |

I really do not like this use of the word Czar, Czar is a Russian form of Caesar. Kaiser is German. Tsar is an alternate spelling of Czar.
This is a terrible Idea. There are too many cooks in the soup. Napoleon once said he would rater face five great Generals than one mediocre one. Bureaucracy is running amok. |

Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution clearly forbids the granting of titles of nobility. Another example of BusHitler and the Rethuglicans attempting to rape our democracy. The man who would be king is saving that title for himself. |

"I wonder how those 4-star Combatant commanders are going to enjoy taking orders from a 3-star?"
Ah, but he is no longer a 3-star—he is a czar! Problem solved. |

That is the exact same question that popped into my mind when I read that. That and "What in the hell do we need another Czar of anything for?" |

I’m not so sure this is a bad idea...In the newly created position, Lute would serve as an assistant to the president and deputy national security adviser, and would also maintain his military status and rank as a three-star general. Not just a General. The White House has sought a war coordinator to eliminate conflicts among the Pentagon, the State Department and other agencies. Lute will seek to cut through bureaucracy and deliver fast responses when requests come in from U.S. military commanders and ambassadors. ...............................................................................
Until now, Hadley and other West Wing officials have tried to keep turf-conscious agencies marching in the same direction on military, political and reconstruction fronts in Iraq. Not just in charge of the Armed Forces.
Will it work, I don’t know, but I’m not sure that I’d dismiss it out of hand.
I’ve said before it’s a job that requires bringing the DC bureaucracy into support of the mission, not just DoD. If he can get the Interior, FBI, State to move in synchronicity then that’s good.

No question, all of that would be good, but grabbing some unknown 3 star out of the Pentagon to do it certainly doesn’t seem the way to go, at least to me. I mean, if the President hasn’t been able to pull it off, what chance does someone merely speaking for him have? |

Pity this poor General. George has just brought in a fall guy to have on hand to place the blame for a failed policy. Now George can say that he left it to the military and they failed. Too Bad for Lute. |

I predict that by the time he gets his staff selected and organized, the various liaisons established, and the pecking order firmly established so that he can actually do something without needing to go to the President to back him up, the war will have been decided. |
