Just a Reminder
Posted by: McQ on Saturday, May 26, 2007

After the flood, here in the comment section, of those who like to live in the past and just don't want to let go of how or why we went to war but enjoy attempting to rewrite the actual history, a cavalcade of those who supported action against Iraq:

Bruce, isn’t this kind of a specious thing? A lot of people, including myself, supported harsh treatment to the point of military strikes and the like on Iraq, but there is a world of difference between taking out a suspect WMD site and invading and occupying a country, no? None of the people in that video, save perhaps Sen. Bayh, was supporting a war of occupation on Iraq.

It’s no coincidence that the election for which the GOP produced this video turned out pretty damn badly for them.

No more so than positing that we purposefully engaged in a "war of occupation."

Just like the sort of thing we’ve been doing since 1991, isn’t that the definition of "Insanity." We’ll keep on with ineffectual policies but pray that some how they will work out?

Joe, you know better than that...

Failed programs, stratagies, tactics and ideas are only to be used over and over and over with no real change if they are LIBERAL. Conservative ideas and plans and programs must be cancled the first time someone says the word "failed" regardless if it actually is or not.

The most fervent hope of liberals in America today is that the American voter will not have much of a memory. And in the case of most liberals, that’s true. The question is, will the number of people with short memory, be enough to win the next election?

Maybe it would’ve been different if many people weren’t seeing it for the first time....today.....on the web.

The GOP should’ve had mammoth pushback in this vein from minute one.

PS Oliver-

Election results be damned, those are the facts and you can never change them

You know, the Left developed the whole "Bush Lied" meme as away to demonize him and now they are all hurt because there’s a video of their "lies" on the internet.

Awwwwww.

p.s. Oliver, we invaded and occupied Kosovo on the basis of possible mass killings (which ended up being not that "mass")

The quotes are right there, Oliver. Explain them to me in their context, will you? What was Hillary Clinton really saying when she said she could support the President in this? John Edwards? Jay Rockefeller?

There they stand, or sit, saying what they’re saying. Now, in this world where we won’t let go of the fact that "Bush got us into this war", why do those folks get a pass?

"why do those folks get a pass?"

Because without that pass, Oliver has no point.

Oliver never had any point except to do whatever it took to win.

I believe he even said it on this blog.

His own lies, and the lies he supports- knowingly supports and abets- are all for victory, as the end justifies his means.

Oliver, explain to me why you’re not evil for knowingly taking the position you take?

You really don’t expect an honest answer to that? From O-Dub?

Not only that, but most people associate the Kosovo war with the mass ethnic cleansing of ethnic Albanians, believing that’s why we were there. In reality, the mass ethnic cleansing started in response to the NATO bombing, and then NATO kept their bombing from above 15,000 feet meaning they were unable to go in and help people on the ground during the war. Kosovo was a failure in policy, but the Clinton PR machine managed to make it seem like a success.

In many ways the Iraq war was a logical extension of Clinton’s foreign policy; it was Albright who said "what’s the use in having a big army if you’re not going to use it." That’s the kind of comment which should ring alarm bells.

Once again you find away to contradict every comment you have written in single post. Kosovo caused by NATO. NATO bad because it can’t finish what it started.

If level headed people (read not you) prevail, Iraq will be started and FINISHED in fine detail (Not 10K feet) from boots on the ground. Why are you so opposed success!!

By the way great not so subtle dig on the Military usuc. Can I suggest a job off campus this summer!

How is darfur goin for you? Has it been saved yet by your legions of pacifists?

I think we got lucky in Kosovo in that Yugoslavia was already broken up and they were not strategically important enough to demand that we try to occupy the whole country and keep it together.

Sen. Clinton voted to authorize the use of force (as did Bayh, Edwards, Kerry). Only one person in the world decided to invade Iraq (or where you for the executive before you were against it - or just with Democratic presidents or what? Pretty soon we’ll be hearing that FDR and Truman’s victories are negated because they were just Democratic presidents, the glory goes only to the Republicans in congress who authorized the declaration of war). Oh, and if we aren’t occupying Iraq, what exactly are we doing - housesitting?

We occupied Kosovo, and Yugoslavia? Interesting. I don’t have my latest edition of the rewritten conservative history books. I’ll put in an order to the ministry of information.

This is why there’s no point to debating liberals. They simply redefine words and move the goalposts.
