Vandals burned dozens of small American flags that decorated veterans' graves for Memorial Day and replaced many of them with hand-drawn swastikas, authorities said Monday.

Forty-six flag standards were found empty and another 33 flags were in charred tatters Sunday in the cemetery, authorities said. Swastikas drawn on paper appeared where 14 of the flags had been.

Members of the American Legion on this island off Washington's northwest coast replaced the burned flags with new ones Sunday afternoon.

The vandals struck again on Memorial Day after a guard left at dawn, the San Juan County sheriff's office said. This time, the vandals left 33 of the hand-drawn swastikas.

One of the reasons you see organizations like Gathering of Eagles and the like is people of my generation, the Vietnam generation, remember what it was like to be a soldier then and how we were treated by the public at that time. GoE has said "never again" and so have I. And thus pointing out the disgusting acts sick bastards like this do in a blatant act of political desecration will always get a priority from me.

The people who did this are beneath contempt and deserve everything they have coming to them legally.

Seeing as it’s a tiny island with only around 4000 residents, the perps will likely be caught. They probably live there.

And the sad/ironic part is that some of those veterans graves they desecrated probably fought in WWII

War’s war...Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Manzanar...can you not see the War Crimes in those, OF COURSE these vet’s were Nazi’s, just like Prescott Bush...Man you guyz are blind.

My advice, ask every boy/young man 14-25 on the island to produce a valid alibi...something says that the culprits lie within this class of people. Call it profiling if you will, but I’m willing to wager US Dollars that the culprits will be 14-25 y.o. guys.
