He’s an admiral it’s the Navy, I assume that the focus of his confirmation will be the quality of the granulated soap in the showers and whether or not the contracts were fairly let....but that’s just my guess. |

Sad to say in the Merchant Marine it IS "left" and "Right"...I would imagine "port" would have left Kennedy disappointed when he realized what it meant for the Fleet, rather than the wine lover....

Gates isn’t exactly enamored of the endless war in Iraq and some say nominating Mullen is the beginning of a big house cleaning of the rest of Rummy’s toadies. If so none too soon.
Those who think the next big internecene battle in the Bush Admin is going to be between Rice and Cheney may have it wrong. It might be Gates and Cheney. If that’s the case for the good of the nation the winner had better be Gates.

not to whip on an old dead horse or anything, but the mention of JFK reminds me of an old chatroom debate: was JFK a world-class screwup - on par with teddy - or not? the argument went something like this: top speed of a ww2 japanese destroyer is, say, 25 knots. top speed of a PT boat is, say, *50* knots.
and still somehow PT109 gets t-boned. and that happened **how** again, exactly? was lt. kennedy asleep or drunk? would an air force guy get to write a book making himself out to be a hero if he’d managed to get his F18 rammed by an enemy cargo plane? "it came out of NOwhere, sir!" |
