Nifong tries the modified limited hangout
Posted by: Billy Hollis on Friday, June 15, 2007

Just out from the New York Times, via Instapundit, Mike Nifong, the DA in the Duke non-rape case, has resigned.
Durham County district attorney Michael B. Nifong said today he plans to resign his job, after admitting that he had “crossed the line” of ethical standards in some of the public statements he made about the Duke University lacrosse players he charged with rape.

Corey Lowenstein, The News & Observer via Associated Press
Reade W. Seligmann, left, testified at a hearing on whether Michael B. Nifong violated ethics standards in pursuing the case against the three Duke students.

An emotional Mr. Nifong made his announcement on the stand at the end of several hours of testimony in a state bar association hearing on whether he had violated ethical standards for prosecutors.

Nifong is in the middle of his ethics trial, which has not gone well for him. "I question the timing", as the old saw goes. I'm not the only one:
Joe Cheshire, a lawyer for one of the Duke defendants, said afterward “I believe it’s a cynical, political attempt to save his law license. His apology is far too late.”
I agree. He'll be very lucky if all he loses is his license.

Nope, just led us into a trap and we are too stupid to see it.

Don, according to some (well, one anyway), we must be absolute imbeciles not to see how smart and capable Nifong is.

On that note, my predictions on the case (in the comments here) are looking pretty good. Not bad for an imbecile, anyway.

Nifong should be tarred and feathered, run out of town on a rail, debarred, and sued in a civil case by the three lacrosse players from Duke for about $100 MM just to keep him from trying his hand in some other profession——like the rest of his life!

I watched some of it and what jumped out at me was he kept saying that he pushed the prosecution so hard because "We are very diverse here in Durham" and "We have a very large African-American population." He basically admitted on the stand that the charges were pushed because of the defendants race. That sounds like Durham could be sued big time for a government enforced hate crime and his testimony used against them.
