Nifong going to jail? I’d be surprised.

The Duke 3 have filed a motion for criminal contempt charges to be leveled against Mike Nifong.

Theoretically Nifong could go to jail for this. I'd be pleasantly surprised if that happened; I certainly don't expect it. I suspect that a fine is not out of the question, though.

Since I'm not a lawyer (yea!) I'm not really an expert on what this motion means or why the boys did it. Perhaps our commenters with a legal background can shed more light. But I suspect the boys did it to shore up the case of getting financial compensation from Nifong.

Maybe it’s as simple as doing it for the spite. If Nifong screwed me this way and I had means (as the Duke boys seem to) I’d haul him into each and every hearing/venue/lawsuit possible. It will probably be terribly gratifying for the Duke families to see Nifong sitting at the defense table, having to explain his actions to stay out of jail...

This is a most important case... If you misuse your office then you are punished. Bravo to the judge that said, gone and gone now. Does the story of Esther in the Bible ring a few bells. Haman felt he could do anything, and in turn brought every thought he had against innocent people back on himself. There was stuff found wrong from the beginning, and nobody held their tongue until the truth came out. Do I think the girl should be punished, no, she was impaired... and probably can’t remember clearly. But unless NIFONG was sleep deprived, doing lines, and free basing he was not impaired. Deserves what he got.
