Chavez is not a dictator
Posted by: McQ on Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Or so says this guy. If you're interested in a perfect example of rationalizing oppression, try this post. And check out the blogroll as well. It helps explain why this young fellow wouldn't know a dictatorship if he actually had to live under one.

He needs to look up the definition of dictator again. Venezuela’s legislature gave Chavez the ability to rule by decree for one year. How is rule by executive fiat not the textbook definition of a "dictator"? Now you could argue that he is a benevolent dictator not a malevolent dictator or some such, but he is still a dictator in one form or another.

I find it rather ironic that under a blog banner of "Revolution" that this guy is opposed to anti-government sentiment.

"Dictatorship" means property-owning, voluntary society. E.g, dictatorship = Wal-Mart.

"Democratic" means communist dictatorship. E.g. Cuba/Gulagville = Democracy.

You are both using different dictionaries. That’s the issue here.

You should also feel sorry for this revolutionary comrade. Everyone knows it’s the useful idiots that are the first ones purged and sent to the gulags. Freedom-lovers and other "counter-revolutionaries" are second in line.

From "stancelspencer"’s post:
In Venezuela most people support Chávez. He was elected and re-elected several times. ... Branding him a “dictator” is not accurate. He is actually far more democratic than Bush.
I wonder if "stancelspencer" would also agree with the claim that "(In 2002,) in Iraq most people support Hussein. He was elected and re-elected several times. ... Branding him a “dictator” is not accurate. He is actually far more democratic than Bush.".

Sheesh.

I do not mind any of your attacks on me. It is nothing I have not heard before. When you’re of my political persuasion you get used to it.

Anyone is welcome to comment the same as they have here on my blog.

May I recommend venezuelanalysis.com for accurate information and news about the political situation in Venezuela.

Hugo Chavez is not a dictator. I have seen absolutely no evidence to back that claim up. It is thrown around by opponents of socialism.

Well if you’re going to tout it, it’s best to quit whining when you get what you expect.

Well then you’re not very familiar with what constitutes a dictatorship. But here’s a hint: ruling by decree is one of the big indicators. Another is stomping on freedom of the press.

But if that’s not enough, start here for an explanation of how it has come to pass that Hugo Chavez is now the dictator of Venezuela. Then there’s violating property rights, etc., etc.

More here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. If that’s not enough, I can link to more. What this should make you understand is this isn’t some casual fancy of mine. I’ve been watching Chavez for quite a while.
It is thrown around by opponents of socialism.
What’s thrown around by opponents of socialism is its history of being the ideology responsible for more human misery and death than any other ever tried.

If Bush decided to bypass the congress and rule by decree, do we think Spencer would have any problems with it?

Yes, because Bush is conservative (nominally, at least). Were he left-wing, Spencer wouldn’t have any trouble at all...after all, the end justifies the means.

See, there’s the issue.

Bush is called a dictator so much by liberals, they think THAT is what a dictator is. Since Chavez is NOTHING like the current government we "enjoy" (for varing degrees of the word), Chavez isn’t a dictator.

And Stancel, you’d get less crap if you weren’t a moron.

I’m just saying...

Stancel is somewhat excusable because he’s a know nothing 18 year old. Of course he’s quite sure he knows it all, but then again he’s probably never read Mark Twain.

Invoking Mark Twain? He would often disagree with you lot.
