Bumper sticker shows up in London
Posted by: McQ on Friday, June 29, 2007

An explosives packed silver Mercedes was disarmed today in London:
Police have defused a car bomb found near Piccadilly Circus in London's West End.

The "explosive device", discovered at 2am, posed a real and substantial threat to the surrounding area, according to a police source.

Specialist officers have made the bomb safe and loaded the car, a silver Mercedes, onto a lorry to be taken from the scene.

Police were alerted this morning to a suspicious vehicle in The Haymarket area in the heart of theatreland, close to Regent Street's popular shopping area.

A witness reported seeing gas canisters being removed from the car, believed to be a silver Mercedes, at around 4am.

The vehicle was covered in a blue tarpaulin as forensic teams examined it.

The area, including Piccadilly Underground station, has been cordoned off and will remain closed for some time, police said.

Scotland Yard said detectives from Counter Terrorism Command were investigating the potential bomb plot.

One witness said that door staff at the nightclub Tiger, Tiger alerted police after the car was driven into bins last night and the driver ran off.

The witness said the large silver saloon car was being driven "erratically" before the minor crash. The driver was not stopped.

Who was it that said the GWoT was a bumper sticker?

Oh, yeah. Yeah, let's trust him with national security, shall we?

Yeah, and who was it said we’re fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them at home? Not so much, if you live in London. Would this even have happened if Blair hadn’t been Bush’s poodle, and Bush such an ass? There’s another soundbite that should disqualify the speaker - or his enablers - from having anything to do with national security.

You live in the UK, Platypus?

McQ, what do you mean by that question?

Just wanted to know what he meant by "home".

Wasn’t sure whether it was a loaded question. Apologies, my cynical, bitter side got the better of me.

Wouldn’t know a thing about that stuff, Kav. ;)

Globar war on terror is a bumper sticker because the metaphor of war is inappropriate and misleading.

What we need and have is a cooperative global counter-terrorist effort. War on terror, war on drugs, war on poverty...those are metaphorical uses of war that are political slogans. Saying that doesn’t at all diminish the need for a true, effective counter-terrorism strategy.

"those are metaphorical uses of war that are political slogans."

Do tell. Used, perhaps, to mobilize political support? Certainly easier to say or write than your alternative, which itself is not quite literally accurate.

Yet another example of someone who acts like history began the day Bush took office.

How easily you excuse attempted murderous behavior.

Just remember, if someone ever attacks you or your family, what I would have to say to you is this: "Would this even have happened if you hadn’t been such an ass?" to rethink your position?

Gee, I wonder if the "Pakis" living in "Londonistan" have had anything to do with it. Sometimes I wonder how the people that pretty much ruled the world could so something so stupid as to let Pakistanis immmigrate into their country...

Wow Platypus I concur, and just think, all the damge to Dear Old Blighty that might have been avoided if you had just let Herr Hitler settle the Danzig Question without interference. If ONLY Chamberlain hadn’t been Smedley-Ridz’s Poodle and Daladier such an @rse.

Yes, Letting Omar Bakri Mohammed, Abu Hamza, Dhiren Birot, Al Mujahiroun, Amjad Chawry etc, had nothing to do with it. Ironically much of this is due to consequences of the UK’s ’reploymsnt’ from India in 1947; while giving asterling Colonial Officer, Marshal Walter Cawthorne, the job of organizing the

Wait...I’m confused...

Is Platypus claiming Canada and Germany have troops in Iraq?

From ABC News:
A videotape obtained and first reported by ABC News shows commanders sending teams of 50 to 60 men to launch suicide attacks in the United States, Canada, Germany and Great Britain.

In addition to the tension in London, German officials say they are equally concerned they could be a target soon.

Officials tell ABC News at least two men have been arrested inside Germany who came directly from the Pakistan training camp.
Why would non-poodle led countries be targets, Platypus?
