No Republicans Allowed at Democratic Debate
Posted by: Jon Henke on Saturday, June 30, 2007

I don't get the Media Matters campaign against Frank Luntz' participation in the recent Democratic Presidential debate... (note: disclosure)
Smiley confirms that Luntz — and only Luntz — will provide analysis of PBS' Democratic presidential forum

Apparently, Frank Luntz has been criticized for his work (unfairly, it seems), and — what's worse — he's worked for Republicans. It's the latter that really irks the Left — despite the fact that Harry Reid invited Luntz to a Democratic retreat just last year.

But why not Luntz? After all, the host/moderator of the debate (Tavis Smiley) is a liberal Democrat, who worked for a Democratic politician and wrote "the liberal manifesto Hard Left: Straight Talk about the Wrongs of the Right." At most, Luntz is balance.

In any event, I didn't see Democrats objecting to Smiley's partisan background as a Democratic operative...though they screeched loud and hard at Britt Hume's moderation of debates.

Again, I expect nothing better from them; I merely note for the record.

Such children, all of them.

If you’re a Republican, this is exactly what you want to see. If the Democratic candidates spend their entire primary period immersed in a sea of liberal-to-left moderators, analysts, and audiences, then they will be ill-prepared to deal with the general election. Very ill prepared.

Given his paucity of national campaign experience, Obama should be particularly leery of this.
