I voted for him in 2004 and I am not entirely pleased with the man whom I supported, even though I did so unenthusiastically. Whenever Arlen Specter shows any political fortitude or takes action is is invariably either misguided or quickly subsumed by some weakness in him.
I wish Senator Specter would just leave the Senate with what little political dignity he has left and spend his last years at his house on Long Beach Island, which is a lovely place and I’m sure he’s bought a very luxurious house, probably in Loveladies or somewhere in Beach Haven.
He will not do that, of course, and seems fully set and ready to contest his seat again in 2010. I suspect that he’ll win unless there is either some miraculously successful challenge to him in the primary election or the Democrats nominate a strong candidate to oppose him. A challenge in the primary election is possible, but not likely to be successful, and the Democrats will likely sacrifice Joseph Hoeffel or someone of his unimpressive caliber again to him. |
